Before debuting with TREASURE, Junkyu was a child model who starred in several commercials and advertisements. As a child, he started in a commercial for PLAYCORN, a line of children's toys in South Korea. He also appeared in a commercial for a bus service, KOBUS.

Other commercials he starred in as a child include car brand GM Daewoo, formal wear brand Roygen, cookie brand Mongshell Cream, and Hanuri, an educational academy in South Korea.
