5 K-pop Songs With Classical Music Samples: Red Velvet, Dreamcatcher, More!

Classical music refers to the Western music tradition used for formality and emphasizes order as well as hierarchy. Meanwhile, K-pop is popular/mainstream music which originated in South Korea.

Classical and K-pop may be way too different from each other, but what will happen if they're mixed together? If you're a fan of modern meets classical, then this list is for you!

5 K-pop Songs That Sampled Classical Music:

1. Red Velvet - Feel My Rhythm

On March 21, 2022, Red Velvet dropped the EP, "The ReVe Festival 2022," along with its title track, "Feel My Rhythm." Immediately after its release, the song became a hot topic as it samples J.S. Bach’s "Air On The G String."

If you will listen to the song's intro, the arrangement that you will hear is from the second movement of the German composer's "Orchestral Suite No. 3 In D Major, BWV 1068."

Indeed, its classical elements added fun to its intense trap beat!

2. Dreamcatcher - Good Night

For this release, Dreamcatcher featured a sample from German composer George Frideric Handel‘s “Suite No. 7 in G Minor.”

This is mainly written for piano and harpsichord, but Dreamcatcher boldly reinvented classical music as they gave it a new sound by playing it on a guitar.

Who would have thought that classical music also sounds good when turned into hard-hitting rock? But of course, this will not be possible without Dreamcatcher's skills and signature sound that only them can do!

3. BTS Jimin - Lie

As a former contemporary dance student, Jimin didn't only show his love for modern but classical music as well when he dropped his solo song, "Lie."

The song, which is part of BTS "Wings" album, sampled a distorted guitar sound of a bit of melody from Spanish composer Manuel de Falla's "opera La Vida Breve."

4. MOMOLAND - Freeze

MOMOLAND is known for their energetic songs and bubbly image, but they are actually one of the K-pop groups that always strive to show different concepts.

Prior to the release of their hits "BOOM BOOM" and "BAAM," they first challenged a modern song with classical music samples with the release of "Freeze" in 2017.

The song's intro interpolates “Entrance of the Gladiators” by Julius Fucik, which helped in giving off the classical circus-like vibe of the song.

5. Cherry Bullet - Hands Up

Last but not least, you will definitely be hooked by this song by Cherry bullet, which sampled the famous "Für Elise" by Ludwig Van Beethoven.

"Hands Up" is really a fun and interesting song to listen to and watch as it showcased the group's shift from their bubbly image.

The high-energy trap dance track flaunts the group's incredible dance skills and confidence as well.
