On August 5, 2007, Girls' Generation (SNSD) was introduced to the music scene by SM Entertainment. Amid the influx of boy groups during their debut, the girl group paved the way and became a K-pop legend.

After 15 years, they continue to prove their status as the "Nation's Girl Group" with their undying influence and popularity of their representative songs.

Here Are Most Legendary Girls' Generation Songs:

'Into the New World'

In 2007, SNSD debuted with "Into the New World."

Initially, the song wasn't loved by K-pop fans due to the popularity of Wonder Girls' "Tell Me" and BIGBANG's "Lie" released in the same year. It was also criticized for its unconventional sound, almost close to J-pop.

However, its melody and meaning eventually captured the general public, depicting the message of "going through any difficulties in the future" and "the world we met again" to the place of solidarity and struggle.

The song, which had many twists and turns, eventually garnered traction and its much-deserved respect. Today, "Into the New World" remains widely utilized for protests aiming for betterment.

'Gee'

Following its debut success, the eight-member group made another wave of fame after the release of "Gee" in 2009.

The earworm track didn't only capture the hearts of K-pop fans but even people in their 30s and 40s, earning them "uncle/aunt fans."

Thanks to this, "Gee" has established itself as the most popular song in the 2000s as well as the year it was released by MelOn, one of the most popular local music charts.

In the same year, Girls' Generation and "Gee" also took home "Singer of the Year" and "Most Popular Song of the Year" Awards, respectively.

'Mr. Taxi'

In 2011, Girls' Generation expanded their impact and decided to release an original song in Japan.

Shockingly, their entry into the Japanese market was positively welcomed, raising its stock price by surpassing 100,000 copies with their single, "Mr. Taxi."

With this song, SNSD topped the Oricon weekly record chart for the first time as a K-pop girl group.

According to Oricon in 2012, Girls' Generation earned 55.5 billion KRW in sales of albums and DVDs in Japan that year alone. It was the highest sales among K-pop singers active in Japan at that time.

'I Got A Boy'

In 2013, Girls' Generation released their massive hit "I Got A Boy," which dominated the K-pop industry.

Following its release, it became a hot topic for its concept, having nearly five minutes of playback time, a composition that seemed to combine several songs, and its dialogue lyrics. Eventually, it earned the nickname, "Bohemian Rhapsody of K-pop."

Billboard also cited "I Got A Boy" as one of the 100 songs defining the 2010s and highlighted:

"It showed the world what results are produced when creativity is not limited by genre restrictions or individual artistic identity."

'Genie'

Honorable mention is "Genie," which created a lot of hype after releasing it just right after "Gee" in 2009. The song was much love for its concept, sound and dance, not to mention the iconic leg flick of the members!
