DIVEs Protest Against Starship on Twitter to Change IVE's Stylist Team— Here's Why

On August 15, numerous DIVEs (IVE fandom) took to various online communities and social media platforms to protest against Starship Entertainment's stylist team for the group.

In context, the six-member group's fans have been criticizing IVE's coordinator for the past months due to the "unflattering" makeup and hairstyle of the members.

Initially, the complaints started with Jang Wonyoung and An Yujin having thicker brows than they usually did.

As the idols are both gorgeous with just light makeup, fans wrote feedback to the coordinator to make the makeup look more natural.

However, even after months, the style didn't change and the situation worsened since that even Liz, Rei, Leeseo and Gaeul's styles didn't match the initial images they were known for.

Due to this, fans expressed their anger and left comments, such as:

"We've endured it for a long time since IVE's debut in 'Eleven.' Starship and IVE's hair and makeup artists have a bad influence on the group. The members are not only on stage, but they are also on commercials, pictorials, and entertainment shows."

Overseas fans also joined in the protest, but some went too far and left indiscriminate malicious comments, such as:

  • "Quit your job."
  • "Your makeup is a re-entry of K-pop."
  • "Stop doing makeup for IVE."
  • "I wish you would ***"

Since then, Korean and international DIVEs joined forces to trend the hashtags #아이브_샵_바꿔 (change shop for IVE), #스타쉽_아이브_샵_바꿔 (Starship change shop for IVE) to raise their voices to replace IVE's coordinator.

IVE's Stylist Apologizes to Group, Confesses She's Having Hard Time Due to Controversy

The criticism continued and some fans also attacked the stylist through her personal Instagram, who runs a makeup shop. When the stylist who coordinated the makeup and hairstyle of IVE had enough, she decided to conduct an apology broadcast on Instagram.

On the same day, she bowed her head to the group, saying:

"I'm sorry to my friends in IVE."

She then confessed:

"I've never had this hard time in 20 years since I started working, and I thought I should turn on a live for the first time."

Despite the negative feedback, she attested to those who are still supporting her that she decided not to waver and continue on her path. She also expressed gratitude to people who leave her kind words.

Following the brief live broadcast, people responded in a variety of ways, such as:

  • "It's unfortunate for you to experience that, but I still want Starship to change you as the coordinator."
  • "Is it okay for the staff to be criticized?"
  •  "You shouldn't curse the coordinator, you should curse the agency."
  • "Stop playing the victim, I hope you accept legitimate criticism."
