SHINee Key Introduces Himself as Contract Worker: 'It's a lie to say that the company is family'

On August 26, SHINee member and soloist Key appeared as the latest guest for rapper Lee Young Ji's web entertainment show, "My Alcohol Diary."

On that day, the two stars showed incredible chemistry together, even making a sea of laughter as they talked about various things.

Just then, the 15-year male idol opened up on his thoughts as a SHINee member who debuted under SM Entertainment and hilariously exposed the "truth" about his company being a family.

"Although SHINee was leading a bright future, had a vision and has been doing well, personally, I didn't have a unique and outstanding character that I thought people can recognize.

When I got the chance, I made my own character and I realized, 'I could make everything mine in this approach.'

"Because our position is not a place that requires someone to fill up later on."

Despite the serious talk, Key's entertainer side was finally unveiled and expressed his desire to take Lee Young Ji's place as the main host of the show, making the latter and the staff team laugh. However, he drew attention as it seems like there's a much deeper reason why he thinks like that.

"Since I am a contract worker, and you are also a contract worker, we never know what will happen in the future. That's what we're supposed to do. I always think so."

To Lee Young Ji, who suddenly got embarrassed to hear someone introduce himself as a contract worker for the first time, Key continued:

"I am a contract worker. What kind of company is a family? You're talking nonsense. We are just helping each other."

One after another, Key set the record straight and claimed:

"(But) I love my company. I love you (SM)."

As the broadcast went on, Key and Lee Young Ji's conversation got deeper. When the former was asked about young idols experiencing stress due to finding their respective images, Key conveyed his advice, as a senior idol who has been in the industry for 15 years.

"I didn't quit SHINee at that time. So in the seventh year of the career (also known as the 7-Year Curse), it's always the odd years that people always think strange things such as quitting the group. It applies to everyone."

"Now that I look back, I needed some time. If I could have done as I please, my vision would have been narrower."

He emphasized that although idols often pursue to do things in their way, it is also important to follow others to widen their visions.
