'The Second World' 1st Round Winners: Oh My Girl Mimi vs WJSN Exy, Jimin vs Yubin
The one-on-one vocal battle between girl group rappers has finally started! In "The Second World" Round 1, Mimi, Exy, Jimin and Yubin heated the match with their vocals.
Oh My Girl Mimi vs WJSN Exy: Idols Show Contrasting Concepts, Vocals
Among eight participants, the first battle for the first round was between same-age idols Mimi and Exy.
During Mimi's stage, she stole the spotlight with an energetic atmosphere, choosing Lexy's "Into the Sky." Aside from her powerful vocals, the Oh My Girl rapper also impressed viewers with her DJing skills.
Contrary to her party-like concept, Exy turned the stage 180 degrees for flaunting a retro concept. She was lauded for her stable vocals, singing Yoo Jae Ha's "Melancholic Letter."
As a result, Mimi won with 4-1 voice reader votes. She expressed her feelings during her speech, saying:
"I've decided to fight against myself in every competition. I decided to accept whatever the result is, but I'm happy. Thank you."
Shin Jimin vs Yubin: Former Girl Group Members Showcase Charms as Soloists
The second match was then played by Yubin, a former Wonder Girls member, and Shin Jimin, former AOA leader.
During the battle, Yubin showed off her sultry charisma. She reinterpreted Uhm Jung Hwa's "Invitation" in her own style and presented a fascinating dance choreography and vocals.
As for Jimin, she confessed her love for guitar and chose Jaurim's "Magic Carpet Ride" accompanied by a live band.
Although the two performed really well, the judges ruled in favor of Jimin after much consideration and won with 3-2 votes. Jimin expressed her thankful heart and said:
"I'm glad that I have a good start, right from the first round. Thanks to Yubin sunbae, I think I worked harder. I'm grateful."

"The Second World" is a vocal survival program of K-pop girl group main rappers, which airs every Tuesday at 8:50 p.m. KST.
The show aims to feature girl group rappers and create a vocal stage that breaks prejudice against them about their singing potential.
Among idol rappers, MAMAMOO Moonbyul, Billlie Moon Sua, Yubin, Oh My Girl Mimi, WJSN Exy, Jimin, MOMOLAND JooE and CLASS:y’s Kim Seonyou participate in the show.
The program is also graced by outstanding vocalists as judges, also known as "voice readers," such as Kim Bum Soo, Jung Yup, Apink Jung Eun Ji, BTOB Eunkwang, and MeloMance’s Kim Min Seok. The program is also hosted by top ballad singer Paul Kim.
For those who are not familiar if how the show will work, the eight members will have to undergo four rounds and the top 5 will continue to compete for the final rounds.
The five competitors will be determined by the cumulative scores they get; 100 from the voice readers, 200 extra points for the winner of one-on-one matches, and 300 points from global hero votes.
The grand winner will have the opportunity to sing an OST for a JTBC drama and perform at the Golden Disk Awards, one of South Korea's prestigious awards ceremonies.
