NewJeans Draws Mixed Reactions Over Group's Latest Outfits and Makeup

Since their surprise debut back in August of this year, rookie girl group NewJeans has been drawing attention for not only their addicting songs, the visuals of each member, but also for their trendsetting fashion.

The group became well-known for their Y2K fashion, often impressing fans for their great mix of modern and nostalgic elements, which earned both NewJeans and their stylists a great deal of praise.

However, in recent days, NewJeans and their stylists are making heads tilt for their rather eccentric fashion choices, as well as for their makeup and hair styles.

Some of the instances that drew NewJeans criticism from netizens was for their outfits when they attended the 2022 The Fact Music Awards (TMA), and more recently the 2022 KCON Japan.

At the TMA, the members were donned in clothing that featured varying patterns. While a chunk of netizens found their outfits at the event creative, and even age-appropriate as the members' ages range from 14 years old to 18 years old in international reckoning, other netizens found that their outfits were too mismatched and outlandish.

In the case of their appearance at this year's KCON Japan, NewJeans showed off a fun style by mixing the Y2K aesthetic with athletic streetwear. While many argued that the group's outfits were a good representation of what Y2K fashion is, others felt the styling was too confusing and was "losing it's direction."

NewJeans' Makeup Artist Responds to Latest Criticisms

Due to NewJeans' recent outfits that are causing mixed reactions, netizens are now wondering if the group's stylists had changed, as their outfits from before we a lot better and pleasing to the eyes.

Following the latest attention on their outfits, it seems that the negative feedbacks have reached the ears of NewJeans' stylists.

On October 16, one of the "Hype Boy" singers' makeup artist reportedly took to her social media to address the ongoing criticisms. On her Instagram account, she reveals that it wasn't actually her team that was responsible for NewJeans' seemingly controversial hair and makeup styles, and implies that someone else had done the work.

"After reading the multiple comments and opinions through the night, I believe it is best to clarify [the situation]. NewJeans' makeup for KCON Japan is not related to me or our team, and it is not my work," NewJeans' makeup artist said.

Unfortunately, the makeup artist did not explain further who handled the group's styling for 2022 KCON Japan. Some are even speculating that NewJeans was assigned Japanese stylists to give them the popular "Harajuku style."
