WayV Ten Admits Delaying 'Birthday' Release: 'I felt like it shouldn't be that moment'

WayV Ten grooved his inner sexy and edgy romance with his recent solo release, 'Birthday,' the fifth installment in the ongoing music project of NCT Lab.

As Ten spotlighted his sensual identity in this song, fans cannot help but compare the theme, music video, and choreography discrepancy of 'Paint Me Naked,' Ten's August 2021 single, to 'Birthday.'

As the two songs radiated Ten's duality as an artist, the Thai member of WayV confessed that he could depict the contrast that the songs demanded because he initially chose to perform 'Paint Me Naked' than 'Birthday.'

Thus, the question arises - why did the 'Birthday' singer release 'Paint Me Naked' first instead?

WayV Ten Admits Delaying 'Birthday' Release

In an interview with Consequence, Ten mentioned that 'Birthday' was given to him at the same time as 'Paint Me Naked.' However, in 2021, the WayV main dancer and main vocalist felt more capable of performing 'Paint Me Naked.'

"But at that moment, I was not fully into the song. I felt like it shouldn't be that moment that I performed 'Birthday.'" - WayV Ten

Ten also said he could emit different vibes for the two songs because of "perfect timing." He added that 'Paint Me Naked' suited his personality for 2021 as he wanted to portray independence, pushing him to choose the song rather than 'Birthday.'

On the other hand, in 2022, Ten shared that he was recently immersed in romantic movies, consequently feeling the moment to release the song this year. The 'Birthday' singer cited to have watched 'Before Sunrise' and plenty of animations which motivated and pushed him to pursue the daring and dark concept of 'Birthday.'

The movies with romance themes also helped him understand and express the emotions needed in the song's interpretation and choreography.

"I just felt like I could really express myself with 'Birthday' because... I think it's deeper than other songs that I had worked on. My mindset is more calm." - WayV Ten

The Thai dancer-vocalist also referred to his extended stay in China as a point of "reflection," which allowed him to evaluate his mindsets as an artist. As a result, perhaps, the 2022 version of Ten is "more mature" and "mentally prepared" to devour sensual concepts of performances, garnering the spotlight with his new title track.
