5 K-pop Stars Who Initially Never Wanted to Debut As Idols

While numerous K-pop idols have dreamt of becoming singers at a young age, that isn't the case for some. In fact, some of the idols that we known and love today initially had no interest in pursuing a career as a singer. But because of their talents and such, they eventually debuted as one!

With that, here are some of the K-pop stars who initially never wanted to debut as idols!

1. SEVENTEEN DK

DK debuted as the main vocalist of SEVENTEEN. He revealed that prior to becoming a trainee at Pledis Entertainment, he did get interested in singing, which prompted him to start taking vocal lessons as a hobby of his. He later found out about Pledis Entertainment, and contacted them for an audition.

While most participate in auditions for a chance to become a trainee, DK only auditioned just to see how well we would do as a singer and didn't have any intentions of becoming an idol!

But Pledis Entertainment ended up getting impressed with DK's vocals, and offered him a spot as a trainee.

2. SHINee Minho

At the get-go, SHINee Minho had no plans of becoming a K-pop idol. In fact, he had wanted to become a football player, which explains why he is so athletic. However, SM Entertainment was very persistent in trying to get him to audition to become a trainee.

After a lot of convincing and a bit of "stalking," Minho agreed to audition. But hilariously, Minho ended up up singing the national anthem and his school's anthem.

3. TXT Beomgyu

TXT member Beomgyu revealed in the past that when he first made the debut lineup for the group, he had initially turned it down. His reason for turning down a chance to debut was because he didn't have any plans on becoming an idol. In fact, due to him knowing how to play the guitar, he was determined to become a member of a band instead.

After a while, Beomgyu ended up changing his mindset, and just thought he should work hard as the opportunity to debut came his way.

4. ASTRO Cha Eun Woo

Cha Eun Woo is well-loved as a member of ASTRO and as an actor. But before becoming an idol, Cha Eun Woo had other aspirations that didn't involve being in the entertainment industry. In fact, the way he was scouted was pretty interesting.

According to Cha Eun Woo, the idol was followed by a scouting agent who spotted him all the way to a bathroom, where they tried to recruit him as a trainee.

But initially, Cha Eun Woo wanted to have a stable job, like a doctor, judge, or prosecutor.

5. BTS Suga

Interestingly, Suga was kind of tricked into debuting as a member of BTS. Suga has stated in the past that he had zero intentions of becoming an idol when he joined Big Hit Entertainment (now HYBE). But then, HYBE founder Bang Si Hyuk had told him that he would be debuting in a group like hip-hop group 1TYM, and that he didn't need to dance at all.

Obviously, it was a big lie, and Suga ended up debuting in a group that has intense choreographies. Another reason he didn't want to become an idol was because he wanted to be a producer instead.
