THIS Iconic Film Moved BTS' 'Not Today'

In the action-packed music video, BTS members appear to aim for survival as BTS leader, RM, starts the song with a short yet familiar speech.

A Day may come when we lose,

But it is not today,

Today we fight!"

For some fans, this powerful introductory speech is one of BTS' fiercest ways of criticizing and resisting authority, since, upon its release in 2017, South Korea was experiencing civil unrest as a response to government corruption.

One of the writers of the song, BTS RM, affirmed in an interview that he participated in the lyric writing of the song to show to the fans that the septet supergroup refuses to remain silent against alarming social issues and injustices. RM shares that through the band's music, they aspire to raise societal awareness by tackling experiential social issues.

As BTS experienced criticism for some of their previously released songs such as 'War of Hormones,' the BTS leader clarified that whenever talking about social issues in their songs, the team behind the song composition consults experts and reads books.

"We still have a long way to go, but we will think hard and embrace criticism." - BTS RM

Indeed, as BTS criticize the social issues through their songs, the supergroup is also open for constructive criticisms as they improve their musical approach.
