As a member of TREASURE, Jihoon is one of the most popular fourth-generation K-pop idols these days. He is known for appearing on Mnet and JYP Entertainment's 2017 survival show "Stray Kids" and competing in YG Entertainment's reality show "YG TREASURE BOX."

However, little do fans know that Jihoon had a hard time telling his parents about his desire to debut as a K-pop idol. In a new video uploaded by HeyNews, he shared his pre-debut story.

In the video, which is the latest episode of "Hello," the male idol met the mother of one Teume (TREASURE's fan). The first part was reading a letter written by the fan. Toward the end of the letter, she mentioned her anxiety and how she was having a hard time.

The fan's mom then said, "This is why she didn't show me the letter. I thought my daughter was here because she had a hard time studying."

In response, TREASURE Jihoon recalled the time he also suffered from anxiety and the fact that he was hesitant to tell his parents about his dream to become a K-pop idol.

"First of all, my house was very free," he said, "Now that I think about it, I don't think my parents have ever compared me to anyone else. 'Someone is good at this, but why can't you?' I've never heard this before."

He then said that even though he grew up in that kind of environment, when he first dreamed of becoming a K-pop idol, he couldn't tell his parents right away. He first thought of becoming a singer when he was in the 7th grade, but it wasn't until he entered the 9th grade when he let his parents know about it.

"I was worried that my parents might object to it," TREASURE Jihoon explained. He added that he also had second thoughts about the career path he was going to take, asking himself, "Do I really want to do this?"

Eventually, his parents directly asked him if there was anything he wanted to do. He took that chance to tell them that he wanted to be a singer. Thankfully, his parents were delighted to hear that, and they even asked him why he didn't tell them immediately and that he could've gone to a vocal or dance academy in advance.

I went to Seoul and went to an art high school," Jihoon went on. "I think it's natural that you didn't know how your daughter felt. I didn't have time to tell my parents. I couldn't speak well even if I had a hard time."

TREASURE Jihoon later touched on his trainee days, saying, "When I was a trainee, I had a hard time being a trainee. I don't know if I can debut or not, but I have to put everything on here."

He continued that he received bad grades on an evaluation one day and he was on the verge of being expelled. "I had a hard time with that anxiety when I was 17 and 18. I want to run away, but there's no place to run away," he confessed.

Jihoon concluded, "I'm sure Jueun knows that I had a hard time debuting. That's why I think she's able to work harder and gain more strength."
