KBS Gayo Daechukje 2022 Announces Hosts

On Nov. 30, KBS announced on its official website that the hosts of this year's Gayo Daechukje (also known as KBS Song Festival) will be comedian Kim Shin Young, IVE Jang Wonyoung, and actor Na In Woo.

This will mark the first time that these three celebrities will host the music festival, but they all have had experience serving as an MC.

Kim Shin Young, in particular, gained recognition for hosting several variety shows for years. This 2022, she was chosen to host Channel S's "Map to Go Again," KBS2's "I'm not going to die," MBC Ever1's "Again, First Love" and KBS1's "Korea Sings."

IVE Jang Wonyoung is known to be one of the current hosts of KBS2's "Music Bank." She previously hosted last year's and this year's Asia Artist Awards. Meanwhile, actor Na In Woo became the host of the web show "OUTNOW Unlimited" last year.

KBS's upcoming music festival is described as a "year-end party that will splendidly decorate the end of 2022 with a star-studded lineup of K-pop artists who caused a sensation in the music industry in Korea and overseas."

KBS Gayo Daechukje 2022 Lineup of Performers

On Nov. 29, the KBS Gayo Daechukje 2022 lineup was revealed on the broadcasting station's official website. Viewers can expect solo performances from BoA, Choi Yena, and Kim Wooseok (of UP10TION) and a stage filled with amazing vocals from Koyote and Forestella.

Aside from them, K-pop boy groups Stray Kids, TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT), ENHYPEN, NCT Dream, NCT 127, The Boyz, ATEEZ, PENTAGON, and ONEUS are also preparing their performances at the event.

Of course, there are also K-pop girl groups attending such as aespa, NewJeans, IVE, LE SSERAFIM, NMIXX, Kep1er, (G)I-DLE, STAYC, and fromis_9.

The graphic poster for the event, which is reminiscent of arcade games, implies that the music festival will have a Y2K theme, a hot trend among K-pop idols this 2022.

The KBS Gayo Daechukje will be held in person on Dec. 16 at Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium in Seoul, South Korea. It will be broadcast live at 8:30 p.m. KST .

History of KBS Gayo Daechukje

KBS Gayo Daechukje or KBS Song Festival is an annual South Korean music show that airs on the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) at the end of every year. It first took place in 1965 as an awards ceremony called Tongyang Broadcasting Company (TBC) Broadcast Music Awards.

In 1981, TBC was forced to merge with the KBS and so the event was changed to KBS Music Awards. However, the broadcasting station discontinued the awards show in 2006 and called the event KBS Song Festival instead.

It has since been held as a music festival without awarding artists most years. But, awards were given in 2013. The event has always taken place at KBS Hall, but it was held in Gocheok Sky Dome in 2015 and in KINTEX in 2019.
