Is LOONA Disbanding? Truth About Members' Contract Terminations After Chuu's Exit Revealed

Is LOONA disbanding soon?

In 2016, LOONA members underwent a pre-debut project and promoted under sub-units before officially marking its Korean debut with "[+ +]."

The group's career has been tested several times as disbanded rumors bombarded its name. Its 12 members - including the recently removed Chuu - held on to their fans and continued promoting as a group.

With Chuu's recent exit, the disbandment and contract termination rumors came out again. Continue reading to know whether the claims are true or not.

9 Members of LOONA Requested Contract Terminations

LOONA's fans felt worried after reading a report about the contract terminations of nine members after Chuu's departure.

JTBC's Entertainment News first published the report on November 28, claiming that nine LOONA members - Choerry, Go Won, Ha Seul, Heejin, JinSoul, Kim Lip, Olivia Hye, Yeojin, and Yves - filed provisional injunctions this week.

The news outlet explained that the filing was about their request for their exclusive contracts with LOONA's agency, Blockberry Creative, to be terminated this year. Two members, Hyunjin and ViVi, reportedly did not join their co-members in filing the provisional injunctions.

It cited that the reason behind the injunctions was due to the members' lack of trust in the company following the recent issues. They reportedly believe that the group's future with the agency would be difficult.

While this already left fans extremely worried about losing more LOONA members, Blockberry Creative released a statement debunking the claims.

Sports DongA quoted the company's official statement regarding the matter and revealed that the report was "baseless."

LOONA's members signed a seven-year contract with the agency. With that, their future will be determined next year or in 2024. The members also have a choice whether to extend their contract with the agency or leave the company for good.

Aside from the fans' rage, Blockberry Creative is dealing with a tax evasion issue that arose after it removed Chuu. Reports divulged that Blockberry Creative's co-CEO Lee Jong Myung and COO Lee Kyu Tae are both listed as high-income tax evaders, evading around $22.5 million and $15 million in taxes, respectively.

LOONA's Disbandment Has Been Hot Topic

Although the contract terminations have been said to be false, LOONA - in fact - faced several disbandment rumors already in the past years.

For instance, Sports World cited several sources revealing that Blockberry Creative owed hundreds of millions of won to its external contractors. The company dealt with $85,000 to $760,000 in unpaid expenses at that time.

Fans were worried that it might lead to LOONA's cancelation of promotions, leading them to ask Elon Musk for help since Gowon is his child's godmother.
