'100 Best Albums of 2022': J-Hope's 'Jack In The Box' Enters Rolling Stone's Top 10
On Dec. 1 local time, American magazine Rolling Stone issued its annual list of best albums of the year.
Among the three K-pop releases, the highest-ranking one is J-Hope's "Jack In The Box," which entered at No. 9.
"Jack In The Box" is the BTS member's first solo album in nine years, and features the title track "Arson" and the pre-release song "MORE."
The record shot to the top of iTunes Album charts in at least 49 different regions, and in the first week of its release, J-Hope's "Jack In The Box" sold a total of 365,917 copies on the Hanteo Chart.

Rolling Stone's Brenna Ehrlich wrote:
"The first BTS member to release a solo album, J-Hope set the bar high with 'Jack In The Box,' a 10-track concept album that opens with a retelling of the myth of Pandora's box."
She continued:
"The last item in that mythical, chaotic container was hope, after which the rapper named himself- an apt description, if this growly, endlessly creative debut is any indication."
BLACKPINK's 'BORN PINK' & NewJeans' 'New Jeans' Land on Top 50
In addition to J-Hope's "Jack In The Box," BLACKPINK's "BORN PINK" also entered Rolling Stone's "100 Best Albums of 2022" at No. 25.
"BORN PINK" is the quartet's second studio album containing their latest hits "Shut Down" and "Pink Venom."
This album made BLACKPINK the first K-pop girl group to become a double-million seller on the Circle Chart, as well as the K-pop girl group with the biggest first-week sales in Hanteo history.

What's more, "BORN PINK" made the quartet the first female K-pop artist to ever reach first place on Billboard 200.
Rolling Stone's Rob Sheffield wrote:
"Jisoo, Lisa, Jennie, and Rosé have long ruled K-pop as the 'Lovesick Girls,' but with 'BORN PINK,' they blew up into rock queens. It's short and sweet- eight songs in 20 minutes- but that's all the time BLACKPINK needs to sashay through a whole wardrobe of star poses, blazing with high-energy confidence."

The last K-pop album to enter Rolling Stone's "100 Best Albums of 2022" is NewJeans' debut EP "New Jeans," which occupied No. 46. To recall, "New Jeans" sold 262,815 copies on its first day of release, setting a new record for the biggest first-day sales of any K-pop girl group debut album on Hanteo.
The mini-album also broke the highest first-week sales of any K-pop girl group debut album in Hanteo history after selling a total of 311,271 copies.
Rolling Stone's Kristine Kwak wrote:
"There's no question that Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein made a splash this year with their first EP. Clocking in at just under 13 minutes, the singles 'Attention,' 'Hype Boy,' 'Cookie,' and 'Hurt' each feature a unique sound and fresh visual component, leaning heavily into a Nineties pop aesthetic that suits this band well and guarantees replays... It's just a bite-size EP, but it's left us wanting a lot more."
Congratulations to J-Hope, BLACKPINK, and NewJeans for making it to Rolling Stone's "100 Best Albums of 2022"!
