BIGBANG Taeyang Making January Comeback? YG Responds to Report

On Dec. 2, JTBC reported that as per several industry insiders, Taeyang will release a new solo album in January 2023.

Following the report, YG Entertainment told Star News that nothing has been decided yet.

Should the BIGBANG member return to the music scene in January next year as reported, it will be his first solo release in almost six years since August 2017 when his third studio album "White Night" came out.

This past October, Taeyang was speculated to be hinting at his comeback because of his social media activity. Fans noticed that all of his Instagram posts were all removed, which could mean he archived them. Also, his profile picture was changed to black after having previously been a teaser photo for BIGBANG's "Still Life."

A few fans also pointed out that he wrote the word "Renewal" on his Instagram bio but he later deleted it.

Other than that, some changes were also noticed in his Twitter account. His header and profile photo were changed to black as well.

Fans were quick to believe that Taeyang could possibly be signaling his comeback and that "Renewal" might be an album title. One of the main reasons is that when artists archive their previous SNS posts and change their profile photos to black, they are hints that they are dropping new music or they have a new project underway.

Do you think BIGBANG Taeyang is really making a comeback soon?

BIGBANG Taeyang's Recent Activities

Since getting married to actress Min Hyo Rin in February 2018 and starting his mandatory military service one month later, Taeyang has been inactive in the entertainment industry. His hiatus continued even after his military discharge due to the birth of his first child in December 2021.

Taeyang officially returned to the music scene in April alongside his BIGBANG members. The veteran group released their new single "Still Life," which contained lyrics written by G-Dragon and T.O.P.

This 2022, BIGBANG's "Still Life" became the first male K-pop artist to achieve a perfect all-kill on Korean music charts, proving the group's unchanging popularity in South Korea. Moreover, the song earned the group the Best Vocal Performance (Group) award at the 2022 MAMA Awards.

Then, in September, the BIGBANG member graced the cover of a Marie Claire's special edition for the KIAF Seoul 2022.

In an interview with the magazine, Taeyang spoke about his life and his views on art and beauty. He said, "I think it's the attributes of the sun (that shines in the sky) that I wanted to take as an image. The sun rises and sets at the right time. It is not seen when it is cloudy or when it's raining but it is just unseen by our eyes and continues to do its job even when unseen."
