On December 2, an article featuring Red Velvet Irene and Yeri went viral in an online community. The post gained more than 200k views with 580 recommendations and ranked #2 in the daily best topic as well.
In particular, the article titled, "The only person Irene's power trip didn't work for..." consists of a clip showing Red Velvet members including Irene, Yeri, and Joy which appeared to be from their early promotion days.
Just based on the short GIF, Irene was looking at their maknae Yeri bringing bottled water. She extended her hand to get it, but Yeri was distracted by the crowd and continued to open the lid of the bottle.
Irene once again extended her hand to Yeri, but the youngest was busy saying her greeting to fans. Once she introduced herself, she drank from the bottled water and passed it to her co-member Joy, without looking at Irene.

The original author then added the caption, "What a queen." Based on her title, the OP was implying that Irene wants the bottled water from Yeri, but the youngest didn't pay attention to her and shared the water with Joy instead.
The author also described Irene's gesture as "power tripping," or showing her authority by controlling others.

As soon as the post went viral on the internet, ReVeluvs, the fandom of thegroup immediately took to the comment section to defend her.
First, fans emphasized that the author gave the short clip a malicious meaning when it's obvious that Irene was only helping Yeri to open the bottle. Watching the GIF again, it was noticeable that the latter struggled to open the lid, Irene who noticed it tried to help her but it was already opened.
Second, fans implied that internet users shouldn't question the "Queendom" singer when it comes to her treatment of her co-members because she sits atop one of the best leaders among K-pop idols.
ReVeluvs uploaded gifs and photos are "receipts" and wrote a brief context of the media.
In some photos, Irene was seen taking care of not only Yeri but other members by being in charge of their drinks.
"Irene always takes care and put members first, especially Yeri. What a forced hate."
"Even when the group plays outside, Irene takes care of her members by holding drinks with both of her hands."
Fans also commented how Irene played the role of the mother, sister and friend to Yeri because she debuted at a young age.
"Irene took care of Yeri a lot, she opened bottled water for her, ironed her school uniform, cooked for her, and when Yeri wanted to eat ramen abroad, but she couldn't eat it, Irene talked to their PD to feed Yeri ramen, and rolled it up like a whirlwind with ramen chopsticks to feed her as much as possible. She's amazing."
Going back to the main clip, a fan explained that it was edited with malicious intent since after Joy drank, Yeri gave it to Irene eventually.
