NCT 127 Reportedly Preparing for January 2023 Comeback + SM Responds

On Dec. 7, Korean news outlet Sports Donga released an exclusive report stating that NCT 127 is gearing up for a comeback in January 2023 with the repackaged version of their fourth studio album "2 BADDIES."

In response to the report, SM Entertainment told Newsen that NCT 127 is indeed working on a repackaged album with the goal of releasing it in January next year.

Their January album will mark their first music release in four months since their fourth full album "2 BADDIES" was dropped on Sept. 16.

"2 BADDIES," which featured the title song of the same name, sold a total of 1,547,595 copies in the first week, the highest among artists under SM Entertainment. That figure is also the eighth-highest first-week sales of any Korean album in history.

In addition, "2 BADDIES" entered at No. 3 on Billboard 200, making NCT 127 the only second K-pop artist to ever chart three albums in the top five of the Top 200 Albums chart, following BTS.

The studio album went on to chart for six weeks on the tally, becoming their third release to do so (after "Neo Zone" and "Sticker"). With this, the NCT unit became the only second K-pop artist to have three albums last for six weeks on Billboard 200 following BTS.

For this week ending on Dec. 10, "2 BADDIES" ranked No. 112 on Billboard 200, jumping up 71 spots from its last week's position. It has now spent seven weeks on the chart.

Also, this week, NCT 127 re-entered Billboard's Artist 100 at No. 97, marking their 48th non-consecutive week on the chart. This entry made the group the K-pop artist with the second most cumulative weeks on the tally, overtaking the title from EXO and now coming behind BTS.

NCT 127's Latest World Tour "NEO CITY - THE LINK"

Ahead of their comeback, NCT 127 embarked on their second world tour called "NEO CITY - THE LINK." It was led by a three-night show at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea from Dec. 17 to 19.

The tour continued in Japan where the group held six concerts, two each in Nagoya, Tokyo, and Osaka. They also had a concert at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore and at SM Mall of Asia Arena in the Philippines.

Following that, they returned to South Korea for a two-night run at Olympic Stadium in Seoul, before they flew to Indonesia for a two-night show and to Thailand for a three-night concert. Their shows in Thailand were their last scheduled concerts to date.

NCT 127 was supposed to hold two concerts in Saitama, Japan at Saitama Super Arena on Jan. 15 and 16, but they failed to do so because of the upgraded COVID-19 restrictions in the city.

Meanwhile, NCT 127 is one of the SM Entertainment artists who will participate in the agency-wide project, 2022 Winter SMTOWN project, called "SMCU PALACE." It is actually a new album featuring all the artists and is slated for release on Dec. 26.

"2022 Winter SMTOWN: SMCU PALACE" is available in different versions including Palace version, Portrait book version, and a version for each of the company's acts on the album.
