Circle Chart Music Awards 2022 has announced the date of its ceremony as well as the new categories and some changes to the other categories.

Circle Chart Music Awards 2022 Reveals Ceremony Date & New Categories

Formerly called Gaon Chart Music Awards, the Circle Chart Music Awards will hold its first ceremony with its new name early next year.

This past July, Gaon Chart rebranded to Circle Chart in line with the addition of revealing album sales from both within and outside of Korea, along with the data of first-week sales. Previously a domestic chart, Gaon Chart only shared data collected from within South Korea.

In the upcoming awards show, new categories will be introduced for the first time including Male/Female Solo Artists of the Year and Group Artist of the Year. Winners of these categories will be determined using data from Circle's album charts and global K-pop charts.

Moreover, there will be several changes to some categories to better represent K-pop's global fandom. In accordance with the growing global demand for K-pop, the Circle Chart Music Awards 2022 will use the data from their global K-pop charts to decide the winners for their main awards, such as Artist of the Year (Digital Music), Rookie of the Year (Digital Music), and World Rookie of the Year.

The name of their Style of the Year (Stylist & Choreography) award has also been changed. This award recognizes the hard work of those in the industry such as choreographers and stylists. To broaden the scope of this award, Circle Chart renamed it as Performance Director and Visual Director.

While the Circle Chart Music Awards 2022 will take place in Korea, the ceremony will be streamed live to let K-pop fans around the world participate. Also, the photo wall that was initially a side event will now be added to the red carpet, which will also be broadcast live.

The Circle Chart Music Awards 2022 will be held at the KSPO Dome in Seoul on Feb. 18, 2023.

The Artist of the Year was divided into digital music and physical album categories. The digital music awards were given to acts with songs that earned the biggest amount of digital streaming and downloads for each month from December 2020 to November 2021. Whereas, the physical album awards were given to artists with albums that had the largest sales for each quarter over the same period.

• July 2021: BTS - "Permission to Dance"
• August 2021: Red Velvet - "Queendom"
• September 2021: BTS and Coldplay - "My Universe"
• October 2021: IU - "strawberry moon"
• November 2021: TWICE - "SCIENTIST"

Artist of the Year (Physical Album - Quarterly)

• First quarter: IZ*ONE - "One-reeler / Act IV"
• Second quarter: NCT DREAM - "Hot Sauce"
• Third quarter: BTS - "Butter"
• Fourth quarter: NCT 127 - "Sticker"
