BIGBANG TOP Confirmed to Travel to Space + Reason He Applied for dearMoon Project 2023

BIGBANG T.O.P has been confirmed to travel to space, alongside Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa and eight other artists. In an interview, he revealed the reason he applied for the #dearMoon project 2023.

BIGBANG TOP Confirmed to Travel to Space + Reason He Applied for dearMoon Project 2023

On Dec. 6, Edaily reported that BIGBANG T.O.P will accompany Yusaku Maezawa to the moon as part of the latter's #dearMoon project.

For starters, #dearMoon project is the first civilian lunar orbital mission created and funded by Yusaku Maezawa. The project was first announced in 2018 and is scheduled to take place in 2023. Onboard the SpaceX Starship, the crewmembers will travel around the moon for six days.

On Dec. 9, the #dearMoon project officially confirmed BIGBANG T.O.P as one of the crewmembers through an interview uploaded to their YouTube channel.

At the beginning of the interview, the "Still Life" singer introduced himself, saying, "Hello, my name is Choi Seung Hyun, also known as T.O.P from South Korea." He added, "I'm 35 years old. I'm a magician, actor, and art collector."

He then said that he's honored to be a crew member of the #dearMoon Project 2023 and revealed that he has been fantasizing about space and the moon since he was young.

Later on, BIGBANG T.O.P revealed why he applied to be part of the lunar orbital mission, explaining, "I applied to dearMoon [project] because I want to feel new stimulation and enlightenment."

He continued, "When I was told that I was chosen as a crew [member], I was so happy."

A clip showing his meeting with Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa was then shown, and it can be seen how delighted T.O.P was to hear the news of him being selected as a crew member. He even shed tears because of the overflowing happiness he felt.

During the interview, the BIGBANG member also talked about Yusaku, who has been like a brother to him over the years. He revealed that Maezawa is an entrepreneur and adventurer who he admires, who inspires him as an art collector, and who gives him a lot of pieces of advice about life.

"As a Korean citizen and artist, I feel great pride and responsibility in becoming the first Korean civilian going to the moon and representing my country," BIGBANG T.O.P further said.

According to Space.com, Yusaku Maezawa will be accompanied by eight artists on his #dearMoon project 2023. Aside from T.O.P, the other seven artists are Steve Aoki, Tim Dodd, Yemi A.D., Karim Iliya, Rhiannon Adam, Brendan Hall, and Dev Joshi. There will also be two backup crew members, namely dancer Miyu and snowboarder Kaitlyn Farrington.

BIGBANG TOP's Recent Activities

Meanwhile, this past April, T.O.P participated in BIGBANG's long-awaited comeback as a full group. The "FANTASTIC BABY" hitmakers dropped a new single titled "Still Life."

"Still Life" contains lyrics written by members T.O.P and G-Dragon, who both took part in composing the song as well.

At the 2022 MAMA Awards, BIGBANG's "Still Life" won Best Vocal Performance (Group), marking their first awards show win after a long hiatus.
