On an online forum, the K-pop community discussed the shortage of girl groups with sexy concept. Various groups were also mentioned, relating them to the theme's disappearance.

Here's what people are saying.

K-pop Community Discusses Rarity of Girl Groups With 'Sexy' Concept

On January 25, people gathered their thoughts on an online forum, where they discussed K-pop concepts. They focused on one theme, which is the sexy concept, since they've observed how rare it is nowadays for a "sexy-themed" girl group to debut.

Different girl groups who harbored the concept were cited, such as Girl's Day, AOA, SISTAR, T-ARA, and Secret. They also remembered the sexy concept from groups Miss A, After School, 9Muses, and Rainbow.

They recalled how prominent it was around second generation, K-pop's golden era and the praises it received within fandoms.

However, K-music fans explained that the concept disappeared during K-pop's transition from second to third generation. With K-pop expanding its trend worldwide, more idol groups debuted, manifesting more international fans.

Along the increase of artists, it also gave way to more concepts, and diversity exploration. People stated that the third-gen idol groups focused on high-teen, girl crush, hip-hop and cute concepts.

Some even commented that sexy concept is now rare, because of sexual harassment. Others pointed out that more underage idols are debuting in the current generation, making companies narrow down more suitable and appropriate concepts according to the general public's taste.

See their comments below:

"We had Girls Day, AOA, Sister, T-ARA, Secret, Miss A, After School, 9Muses, Rainbow, etc. who were known for their sexy concepts."

"Starting from the later half of the 3rd generation, we're seeing more and more of the high teen, girl crush, hip hop and cute concepts. Even for innocent concepts, after Apink, it went extinct."

"It's because you can't trust men for their money if you made a group like that. They don't use their money. They just sexually harass you."

"Because they need a concept that the general public will not get tired of. There are more and more underage members. Whether it's male or female communities, the reactions to sexy concepts are never that good. It has to be one of those 3 reasons."

"I've never seen an A-list girl group with a sexy concept. That just speaks volume."

Sechs Kies Eun Jiwon Shares His Thoughts on 'Sexy' Concept

In other news, first generation idol and Sechs Kies member Eun Jiwon expressed his stance regarding sexy concept.

On January 14, the idol guested on KBS 2TV's "Family Dignity Full House," alongside Secret Song Jieun. On the show, Secret Jieun voiced out how much the group is loved for their cute concepts. She mentioned that since they were all in their 20s already, a transformation may sound like a good idea.

Girl's Day Minah was also on the show, asserting that the group is planning to challenge themselves on a sexy concept as well.

However, Sechs Kies Jiwon elaborated that if all girl groups were planning for a sexy concept, then the music industry will become "disorderly" due to lack of variety.

"If all girl groups turn to the sexy concept, then the music industry will become too disorderly. There has to be some cute concepts left as well."
