YG Entertainment Presents Ruka, BABYMONSTER's 2nd Japanese Member
On February 8, BABYMONSTER uploaded a video on YouTube, introducing Japanese member Kawai Ruka.
Ruka was shown dancing in the YG choreo room, and was interviewed in between segments. The interviewer was revealed to be YG founder Yang Hyun Suk himself. Ruka's movements were fluid, to which Yang Hyun Suk praised.
When asked about how long she's been training at dancing, Ruka replied that it has been 10 years since she started. The video then showed Ruka's dancing clip from 2014, where she performed "Boy" from British girl group Little Mix. Ruka added that ever since she began dancing, she developed a passion for it in the process.
The video also showed her audition on YG's first round in 2018. Afterwards, dance trainer Lee Jung explained that Ruka's greatest asset is her dancing experience, since she honed her skills for a decade. She is also the second Japanese idol in YG, following BABYMONSTER Asa.
The trainer added that Ruka's comprehension on dancing is different compared to other contestants. Moreover, Lee Jung pointed out Ruka's good understanding of hip-hop.
"Ruka's biggest strength is that she's been dancing for such a long time. Compared to other trainees, her level of understanding when it comes to dancing is different. Ruka's got that experience other trainees of that age don't have, and has strong understanding of hip-hop."
Aside from her trainee life, the video also gave fans a peek on what Ruka does in her time-off. It featured her doing Pilates for workout sessions and getting coffee in a café.
During the video, her rap skills were also praised by producer and rap trainer Big Tone. The producer stated that Ruka has a natural hip-hop vibe in her personality. He added that even when Ruka is performing, her gestures come out relaxed and is worth watching.

Meanwhile, Ruka was also interviewed, where she shared her struggles in getting left behind, since a lot of her friends already went to college. The video ended on a good note, when Ruka's mother comforted her during her hardship.
In the end, Ruka assured everyone with her resolve on becoming an idol.
"My mom will be waiting for my debut more than anyone else. I want to work even harder from now to pay back her love. I want to have my debut at YG and become an artist that can show my very own performance."
