BTS RM Comments on Misconceptions in K-Pop Industry

On March 13, BTS leader RM shared his deep beliefs regarding the issue of "K-Label" and misconceptions in the K-pop industry in an interview with El País.

RM is touring several notable museums in Spain while promoting his solo album. It's a well-known fact that RM traveled to Spain in search of ideas for his second album.

Compared to other music businesses, the K-pop industry has a reputation for being the most intense and having the slimmest odds of success. This is so that these K-pop idols, who will later be adored and idolized by fandoms all over the world, can be produced according to a certain formula established by numerous Korean entertainment companies.

With this, RM answered the question if the success of K-pop dehumanizes the artists. The BTS leader explained that when someone becomes a trainee, they start gaining experience as an idol member when young.

"Trainees don't have a lot of personal time, but that's what makes K-pop shine because many young people put forth the same work and effort together; they create an energy that only people in their 20s can have.

They work tirelessly day and night to complete the dance, video, and music, and all these things combine to create synergy."

RM was also asked about "K-Label." He responded:

"Although you can be annoyed by Spotify categorizing all of us as K-pop, it is an exclusive/premium label. It ensures the same high standards of quality that our grandparents fought for."

He also responded that the prejudice and biggest misconceptions in the K-pop industry is pre-fabricated.

Other questions were also asked regarding his personal experiences as a K-pop star.

RM shared that one of the biggest things and abilities he learned in the industry was dancing. He also said that he lost his college life during trainee years in order to pursue a music career.

Lastly, BTS RM revealed that his main dream was to be a rapper or a poet but he ended up being a K-pop idol.
