We can recall that Irene decided to stay away from the limelight in those past years after she was embroiled in an attitude/power abuse (gapjil) controversy. At the time, a long-time fashion editor exposed Irene of verbally abusing them, which later on, was admitted by the celebrity.

Since then, Irene stopped her activities for self-reflection until she fully returned in 2022.

In the promotional photos, Irene showed off her youthful and peach-like beauty while wearing and promoting cosmetic products from an Indonesian brand called Azarine.

Although it was a group promotion, Irene didn't fail to exude her "CF Queen" aura, such as her head-turner glowing beauty.

Prior to her controversy, Irene is the face of a wide range of brands, such as coffee, makeup, soju, food, clothing, and more. In fact, she was even a former model and ambassador for top luxury brands, such as Damiani and Prada.

  • "I acknowledge her having one-top visuals."

  • "To be honest, for her age, she's really legendary."
  • "The level of her beauty is really impressive that she still has a fresh image."

According to her critics, Irene doesn't have the right anymore to return to the field due to her "ruined" image rooted in her past gapjil controversy.

Some even claimed they would boycott the brand once the products were sold in Korea for including Irene in their promotions.

  • "Do you want to see her come back and succeed again? Personality comes first in everything. Like the perpetrator of the school violence or the kid who talks to the weak, it's that, but they suck it up because she's pretty."
  • "Forgiveness is done by victims, not by netizens. It's just that you were crazy about her appearance, and you forgive her because time has passed...Would you have forgiven me for having a pretty face over time if I had verbally abused you?"
  • "Irene fans are disgusting. You can defend her as much as you can then."
  • "I would never buy that brand, my desire to buy it has declined."

Despite the criticism, fans of the stars emphasized that Irene already reflected on what she have done it was time to forgive her.

They also highlighted the double standard among fans, canceling Irene for what she has done three years ago, while male idols can freely go back to their activities in no time after they committed something wrong.

  • "Seriously, Irene has received too much hate... If she was a male idol, she would be hated for around 3 months and then everything would be over."
  • "Kim He*chul is promoting just fine, while Irene can't even promote properly. Wow, this is ridiculous."
  • "This is not even a solo ad, it's a group ad. The author cropping her photos made it looks like it was intentionally done for malicious purposes."
  • "It's not even 3 months. It's 3 years, right? Abuse of power is really bad, but it's not that she didn't self-reflect, and it's not that she wasn't sufficient to deal with it after the incident. Korea needs to give some opportunities for rehabilitation as much as it repents its wrongdoing, and men such as Lee Kyung Y*ung, Kim He*chul, and T*P come out well."

  • "I think it'll be okay for Irene to film CF after 3 years whether it was solo or group level. It's not even three months later. And Irene apologized for abusing her power and shot an advertisement after the agreement. What's wrong with that? That's Irene's job? Are you just trying to stop Irene from doing well or are you really blaming her for her power trip?? She made a mistake and she'll be careful from now on. So stop talking about it, it's over. On the day you overuse your power, save what you want to say now and use it then."
