(G)I-DLE Shuhua Draws Flak for Her Blunt Attitude — Was She Rude or Just Being Honest?

In online communities, (G)I-DLE Shuhua's blunt attitude drew divided opinions from fans. Was she just being honest or did she cross the line?

(G)I-DLE Shuhua Criticized for 'Rude' Attitude Towards JaeJae in 'MMTG'

In the popular online community, Shuhua sparked controversy for her attitude, following her interaction with producer-host JaeJae.

On May 25, (G)-IDLE made their appearance on the YouTube entertainment show, "MMTG," to promote their new album "I feel" and title track "Queencard."

As soon as the video was uploaded, it garnered about 670k views, and the quintet received rave reviews for their fun interview with MC JaeJae.

Unfortunately, Shuhua's remarks didn't sit well to some viewers, and how she treated the host.

Citing her parts in the first five minutes and last 10 minutes of the show, one called out her attitude.

"Shuhua needs to correct herself a bit."

In particular, people claimed that Shuhua was being "rude" to JaeJae, emphasizing how the female idol would jokingly talk with her informally despite their age gap and junior-senior relationship.

People continued that Shuhua showed "unrefined" and "clunky" behavior, which wasn't fun to watch. They called her out for "lacking basic proper manners."

Some of the comments say:

  • "Shuhua really seems to have crossed the line."
  • "Is Shuhua normally like that? It's a little embarrassing... Yuqi and Minnie are not Korean either, but whenever I saw them, I don't feel uncomfortable at all.
  • But Shuhua, as shown in 'MMTG' seems to have a lot of rude attitudes even from an objective point of view... I'm not a fan, but I like (G)I-DLE and enjoy listening to their music, so I'm curious..."
  • "I watch all 'MMTG' episodes, but this is the most uncomfortable and upsetting episode I've seen. As much as the MC and the channel respect the guest, how nice would it be if the guest had been polite."
  • "I think Shuhua needs to learn how to interview the company. In Korea, honorifics are the basics, but I don't think she can distinguish between honorific speech and informal comments. JaeJae tried to cover up the situation well, but we don't know what will happen in other situations."

Web users continued to highlight Shuhua's appearance in other interviews and claimed how "rude" she was, and how often she'd show her "boss baby" attitude even to other members. They wondered how she hasn't been involved in power-tripping controversy up until now.

Neverlands Defend (G)I-DLE Shuhua: 'Don't mistake being rude for being honest...'

When the controversy arose, (G)I-DLE's fandom, Neverland, had a different opinion however. They addressed Shuhua's issue and jumped to the singer's defense.

According to Neverlands, Shuhua "doesn't lack basic manners." They said that she's often misunderstood for her blunt and honest personality.

The fandom said that the "TOMBOY" singer, in fact, has a really kind heart, proven by how she usually stands up against injustices.

  • "I don't think Shuhua has a bad personality, rather she has a weird concept. She got that bold and honest 'maknae-on-top' image so that's probably why she's often seen acting that way. She might have exaggerated it since she's in a variety show, and it really can make people raise their eyebrows."
  • "Personally, I just find her personality funny, rather than rude."
  • "Don't mistake being rude for being honest. Shuhua is a really good person."
  • "Typical K-Netz being surprised that an idol isn't just limited to looking docile and pretty."
  • "I think, she's just being honest. If a person wants to set her boundaries and avoid feeling uncomfortable, is that considered rude?"
