SM Entertainment Announces Onew's Hiatus Ahead of SHINee's Comeback

Onew, the leader of SHINee embarks on temporary suspension of activities due to health reasons.

On June 9, SM Entertainment, the agency of the male idol released an official statement regarding SHINee Onew's worsening health condition.

The label stated:

"Hello, this is SM Entertainment.

First of all, we express our sincere gratitude toward all fans who love and support SHINee.

We would like to inform you about the health condition of Onew and his participation in future events.

To mark its 15th debut anniversary, the group held a fan meeting in May and has been preparing for a concert in June after they finished working on its 8th full-length album release.

Recently, Onew visited the hospital after experiencing health issues and received counseling and examination. As Onew's condition continued to deteriorate, he received the medical staff's opinion that rest and treatment were needed."

What Will Happen to SHINee's Much-Awaited Group Comeback Following Onew's Hiatus?

As a result, SM, unfortunately, confirmed that ONEW will NOT be able to participate in his succeeding activities, including the concert and album promotion of SHINee to give him ample time to rest.

Regarding the scheduled comeback of SHINee as a whole on June 26, it will not be pushed back; rather, KEY, MINHO and TAEMIN will proceed with the concert and album activities without their leader.

Lastly, SM Entertainment asked for fans' understanding, saying:

"SHINee's promotional activities have been eagerly awaited by the members, fans, and our company, but it is an inevitable decision to ensure that SHINee can work for a longer and healthier time, so we ask for your understanding.

Also, as we put the artist's health first, we will support Onew to focus on recovery so that he can work in good shape again. In addition, Key, Minho, and Taemin are doing their best to show good performance to their fans ahead of their comeback.

We ask for your interest and love in SHINee's June concert and 8th full-length album activities."

In a related development, Dreammaker Entertainment, the organizer of SHINee's concert also announced the news and released a guide for possible requests for ticket cancellation/refund due to Onew's absence.

"If you want to cancel/refund your ticket due to the absence of artist Onew, you can cancel it through the Yes24 customer center and one-on-one bulletin board by 6 p.m. KST on June 15 (Thursday), and you can get a 100% refund including fees.

 As announced on the pre-purchase/general reservation detail page, cancellation is not possible after 5 p.m. KST on June 21st (Wednesday), so please make sure to check the cancellation schedule."

Earlier, it was announced that SHINee will hold its sixth solo concert "SHINee World VI-PERFECT ILLUMINATION" from June 23rd to the 25th at the Seoul KSPO Dome.
