Choi Yena's 'Hate Rodrigo' MV Reportedly Removed by Olivia Rodrigo's Management — Do They Have 'Beef' With Each Other?

Amid the heat Choi Yena's "Hate Rodrigo" is receiving from the community, its MV was reportedly removed from YouTube by Olivia Rodrigo's management.

On June 29, the music video for her newest title track "Hate Rodrigo" has been removed from YouTube.

In the streaming platform, Yena's fandom Jigumis noticed that the music video for "Hate Rodrigo" is nowhere to be found. The MV was released on June 27, at 6 p.m. KST, which only means that the music video has become private just after two days since its release.

Shortly after the music video was removed from YouTube, Korean news outlet Xportsnews reported on the evening of June 29 that the "Hate Rodrigo" MV removal came from Olivia Rodrigo's management.

According to sources, Olivia Rodrigo's management requested its removal not because of its controversial title, but for copyright infringement issues in some of the MV's specific scenes.

Moreover, the music video also featured photos of Olivia Rodrigo, and concerns grew regarding the citations made, which reportedly referenced some of Rodrigo's song titles in its lyrics.

Choi Yena's agency Yuehua Entertainment also released a brief statement to Xportsnews, stating that the agency are investigating the circumstances.

"We are currently checking the situation."

With Yena's eyebrow-raising title "Hate Rodrigo" trending online, the idol has been the subject of discussion across online communities and forums, presuming that Yena is sniping at Olivia Rodrigo.

However, at her comeback showcase on June 27, the soloist was interviewed about her release, gaining insights into her inspiration, album production, and its meaning behind the title.

Olivia Rodrigo is one of the most popular artists in the music scene, known for songs such as "good 4 u," "deja vu," and many more. With her being an inspiration to others, it's no surprise that Yena would also become a fan and love her for her artistry.

Yena explained the song is her expressing her cute jealousy and that the word "Hate" is her way of maximizing her feelings for admiration for Olivia Rodrigo.

Here's what Yena said:

"The song "Hate Rodrigo" voices out my cute jealousy for my star, the one who I admire and respect in my own way, without hate. It has interesting lyrics and melodies that are rock-inspired, and it's special because I sang it with my best friend Yuqi of (G)I-DLE."

"It expresses various emotions regarding the longing of something of someone I admire and is jealous of."

"With that in mind, I decided to use irony to declare my long-lasting affection for that person through its lyrics and my performances."
