THE BOYZ New Shocks Fans with Controversial Refusal—What Did He Deny This Time?

In a recent video call event organized by THE BOYZ for fans who purchased their second full-length Japanese album "Delicious," one particular interaction has sparked attention and discussion.

The incident involved THE BOYZ member New, whose response to a fan's request during her allocated 15 seconds left many viewers surprised.

The BOYZ's New Faces Backlash as He Declines Aegyo Request from Fan

A video clip from the event quickly gained traction across various social media platforms and online communities due to New's reaction. In the video, a Japanese fan can be heard asking New to perform aegyo, a popular Korean gesture characterized by playful and cute actions.

New responded by stating that he did not know how to do aegyo, leading the fan to make the request twice more, only to be turned down each time.

The incident generated a wave of disappointment among netizens, who expressed their dissatisfaction with New's lack of fan service.

Critics argued that even a simple gesture like a finger heart or suggesting an alternative action, such as singing, would have sufficed.

Moreover, some pointed out that language barriers may have prompted the Japanese fan to request aegyo, as her proficiency in Korean might have been limited.

While it is understandable for a K-Pop idol not to fulfill every fan request, this incident struck a chord with netizens due to New's history of similar actions.

Earlier this year in March, New faced scrutiny for refusing to participate in a fan-prepared "grip test" during a fan sign event.

He later called out the fan on Bubble, an online platform, for sharing the results of the test, leading to a heated debate among fans.

The netizen who originally shared the 15-second video call with New and the Japanese fan also posted pictures from the event, highlighting the fact that New was the only member of THE BOYZ who did not engage in aegyo.

This incident has shed light on an interview conducted with THE BOYZ by At Style magazine in February 2022, where the group was asked about the secret to their remarkable growth.

While Ju Hak Nyeon attributed 99% of their success to the loyalty and support of their fandom, known as the B, New contradicted his statement.

He expressed his belief that their growth was solely a result of their own efforts, stating that they have consistently put in significant amounts of practice and dedication.

Netizen React

Here are netizen reaction to the byz New Response on his fans:

"Then you should be mad at him. Why are you mad at us.. What's his name..."

"It really burns me that I just hung on for 15 seconds..."

"If you don't want to be an idol, don't do it. Fans think it's an ATM."

"But this isn't a ticket that costs hundreds of dollars. It must have been in front of you?) At first, it was read as if I was not a person who was not fluent in English.."

"If that's the case, shouldn't that member ask the agency not to do a fan sign?Isn't it too much to do that only to fans who are thoroughly loyal while not being able to talk to the agency? It's a company that made it work, but why did you say that to the customer..."

"It's not like you can have a great conversation for 15 seconds, and it's obvious that you'll make such a cute pose or expression..."

"omg.."

New's honest response in the interview had previously disappointed some fans, although others interpreted it as a playful remark and believed that he generally expressed deep affection for his fans, the Bs.
