NMIXX Accused of Boosting Album Sales + NSWERs Defend Group

Netizens are raising their brows on NMIXX's sudden increase of their album sales with new release "A Midsummer NMIXX's Dream," leading fans to defend the girl group.

Here's what happened.

NMIXX's Album Sales of 'A Midsummer NMIXX's Dream' Suspected With 'Sajaegi' + NSWERs Defend Girl Group

On July 13, NMIXX became a hot topic within netizens for their sudden increase of album sales with "A Midsummer NMIXX's Dream."

A forum online was opened, where an author stated how "weird" it was for NMIXX to have a rise in album sales in just two days. On the discussion, the author posted NMIXX's chart result, which comprised of them having 719,886 copies (Day 1), and 72,336 copies (Day 2).

The author also added that in order to hit 700,000, it would either require high-ranking songs on MelOn charts or a good performance across international music charts. However, it pointed out that NMIXX still has difficulty to deliver good results domestically.

The author wrote:

"NMIXX has sold 790k copies in just two days, and currently, they're at 900k. As you can see, selling 900k means that you'd be above the top 9 for girl group first-week sales and that means you've hit a great achievement.

Selling 700k means that most of your songs are dominating on MelOn charts. It can also mean that these songs' performances are doing well in overseas charts. However, it's still difficult for NMIXX to produce digital results in Korea.

If you compare NMIXX's number of fans on MelOn, it pales in comparison with IVE who has 80k, or NewJeans, aespa, (G)I-DLE and BLACKPINK who all have 100k plus. But NMIXX, they only have 25k.

This isn't thanks to domestic fans, nor the general public. Leading to the question, who are the ones buying this many albums? I wondered it's probably because they have lots of international fans."

Moreover, the author remarked on NMIXX's Global Spotify streams, and compared their results on other girl groups as well.

"They had 270k for their Global Spotify streams today. In their first days, NewJeans' reached 2.4M with 'Super Shy,' aespa reached 1.14M with 'Spicy,' IVE at 1.04M with 'Kitsch' and 'I AM' with 1.38M. Finally, we have LE SSERAFIM on 1.55M with 'UNFORGIVEN.'

If you search enough, all top fourth gen girl groups were able to achieve 1M Spotify streams on day one. Yet, NMIXX had hit 270k? NMIXX doesn't have a huge following on both domestic and international areas, so how were they able to sell this many albums?"

Meanwhile, fandom NSWERs defended the group. They mentioned how the user wanted to accuse NMIXX of doing "Sajaegi," a term for chart manipulation which consists of boosting sales by buying one's own album en masse.

Others claimed that NMIXX was able to sell this many albums since they're from JYP Entertainment, one of the big four agencies know in the K-pop industry.

Read their comments below:

  •  "It feels like you want to accuse them of doing Sajaegi. But you have to know that they're from JYP, a listed company, which also means they can't exactly do that."
  •  "NMIXX are just that impressive for reaching that high figure. Looks like you're jealous of them?"
  •  "To you dumb people, JYPE is a listed agency, so them committing Sajaegi is far from happening."
  •  "So why is its suspicious that a Big 3 company is selling lots of albums? To be honest, you guys are the ones who are looking down on NMIXX."
  •  "Did you like to say that NMIXX are indeed selling this many albums because they're doing really well? Thank you for the post by the way."
