THIS 4th-Gen Main Vocalist's Weight Berated By K-Netz — Fan Base Defends Idol

THIS fourth-gen main vocalist is being called out for her weight, sparking a fiery discussion online between critics and her fans.

Here's what happened.

PURPLE KISS Swan Berated for Weight + PLORYs Defend Idol

PURPLE KISS maknae and main vocalist Swan has become hot topic online for her weight.

On July 24, K-netizens made a forum online and criticized Swan's weight, which caused outrage among fandom PLORYs. In the discussion, the post was titled, "An idol who should really start managing herself."

Its thread began with the author mentioning that Swan's weight has been discussed a lot even during her early days in the K-pop industry. This was followed by remarks of a past conversation involving MAMAMOO Moonbyul and the author's hopes for Swan to manage herself more.

The OP wrote:

"This is PURPLE KISS member Swan. This time, she made a solo comeback and she's also the group's main vocalist.

Even when she just made her debut, there were lots of discussions about her weight. To be honest, even her senior Moonbyul told her to manage herself. Swan is such a good singer, and she's pretty, so why isn't she managing herself better?"

The author continued:

"How long is she planning to keep looking like that? Maybe she doesn't have the intention to hit big as an idol after all."

"That's how she looks in a fancam. Swan's face is pretty, and she debuted as a soloist with crazy vocal colors, but she would be able to go viral if she lost more weight."

"Looking at their legs, you can tell how obvious it is. The comparison is also severe between her members. PURPLE KISS members are all skinny apart from Swan, so she stands out more."

As the post continued, netizens expressed their thoughts on the post, and stated that Swan should've debuted as a soloist instead in an idol group.

  •  "The only issue here is that she debuted as an idol, a job that requires identity when promoting, but she only relies on her vocal talent."
  •  "This wouldn't be an issue if she debuted as a soloist."
  •  "She'll do better when she quits and join a program like 'Queendom Puzzle' after losing weight."
  •  "Swan is a good singer, but she's not meant to be an idol."

However, fans immediately defended Swan from the harsh comments, which they deemed as uncalled for. They also called out the netizens for consistently changing targets when it comes to the topic of weight.

  •  "Are you guys changing targets since Liz has lost weight? You're the ones who should lose weight. This is so tiring already."
  •  "She's talented, but she's only mentioned when she's criticized for her visuals and body."
  •  "These bunch of losers just found a new target. NMIXX's Jiwoo, IVE's Liz, and now Swan."
  •  "Not everyone has to have the same body type. I can't even tell which legs are hers."

On Twitter, the issue also broke out and ignited a counter from PLORYs.

  •  "It would make sense since she's from RBW. The agency values talent more than your usual idol packaging or branding."
  •  "Swan's got that unique vocal tone and power. Some comments are just harsh."
  •  "It's disgusting how people can comment harshly on a 20-year-old's body."
