In a Korean online flea market, THIS single photo of SNSD Yuri caused a commotion among netizens and fans, which was later on taken down from the site.

Here's what happened.

SNSD Yuri's ID Photo Being Sold in Karrot Market for $40 — Why Was It Taken Down?

Recently, K-pop fans, particularly SONEs (fandom), were confused when a seller from the buy-and-sell application Karrot Market listed Girls' Generation's ID photo for $40 (50,000 KRW).

This became known to the fandom's knowledge when internet users posted the photo and the ad in various media and online communities.

In the ID photo, it can be identified that it was indeed the female idol when she was younger and the seller wrote in the caption:

"Girls' Generation's Yuri ID photo... We can also trade. I can mail it if you want it to be delivered through a courier."

The transaction amount is KRW 50k ($40).

When netizens and fans saw it, there were some who raised suspicions over the never-been-seen photo and asked if it was fake.

There were also those who inquired if it was rare merchandise of Yuri.

  • "Isn't it a fake photo?"
  • "How did they have it?"
  • "Where does it come from?"

Concerns were raised about unauthorized theft. People asummed that the image file was taken at the photo studio and was printed without permission, or the large-capacity image file online was photoshopped and printed as a proof photo.

However, after confirmation from an SM Entertainment official, it was then proved that Yuri's ID photo was legit.

Netizens then began criticizing the seller.

"Isn't it an infringement of portrait rights?"

Karrot Market Takes Down Post Selling Yuri's ID Photo, Says No Transaction Happened

Amid the argument that it is illegal to trade personal photos of celebrities in return for any amount without their permission, Karrot Market recognized the post, and it was closed to the public.

According to reports, the largest online flea market in South Korea received a tip-off from Yuri's agency and it was attested to them that no actual transaction was made.

An official from Karrot Market said:

"In the case of Yuri's ID photo, it has been confirmed that the person in charge had never provided or sold it to others, and after receiving a request for sanctions on the post from the agency, we checked it and sanctioned the use of the post."

Meanwhile, Karrot Market reminded sellers that while it is possible to sell celebrity goods, making profits by selling celebrity photos without consent can lead to infringement of rights.

On the other hand, Yuri, who is currently actively promoting as a soloist, is in the middle of her solo Asian fan meeting tour "2023 YURI 2nd FANMEETING TOUR [Chapter 2]," starting from Seoul to Manila and Bangkok and will continue her fan meeting in Taipei on August 6 to meet fans around the world.
