4 K-pop Idols With Heated Scandals, Controversies in August 2023: SEVENTEEN Joshua, RIIZE Seunghan, More

In K-pop, people also live for knowing every tidbit of information, whether it may be praiseworthy or scandalous. This is also the unfortunate but normal reality for every celebrity, which proves that the more popular you are, the more eyes you'll have on you.

Here are 4 K-pop idols who got in scandals or controversies this August 2023

1.    SEVENTEEN Joshua

Through the first half of August, Joshua of SEVENTEEN became one of the most discussed idols across the K-pop community. This is because of the speculation of an alleged romance he has with a rumored non-celebrity girlfriend, which caught netizens' attention.

Throughout crumbs from Instagram, sightings, and people's sleuthing, certain netizens have spent their August delving through Joshua's unconfirmed lovelife. While everyone wished that this fuss would stop there, this was further from the truth.

On one of SEVENTEEN's concert, netizens spotted an attendee, whom they claimed as Joshua's rumored girlfriend. According to the screenshots they uploaded online, the woman's name was revealed to be Jo Mi Young, a model and influencer.

The fiasco continued when certain individuals sent out protest trucks in front of PLEDIS Entertainment, HYBE, and even made the conscious decision to follow up a Porsche parade, referring to the rumors of Joshua purchasing a Porsche for his alleged girlfriend.

All these were also accompanied by declarations of Joshua's immediate removal from SEVENTEEN, angering the CARAT fandom.

2.    RIIZE Seunghan

Seunghan, a member of RIIZE, became hotseat when leaked photos online showed the idol with an alleged past romantic partner. The photos all surprised K-netz, but came as fine with foreign fans, thus, bringing mixed reactions.

This was followed by the idol's apology for his past actions, a move that dazed foreign fans since an apology wasn't necessary at all. This issue also reached one of RIIZE's directors named Lee Sang Min, who gained attention for clapping back at a hater on social media.

3.    BTS RM

This August, RM also caught flak when he shared Frank Ocean's song "Bad Religion" on his Instagram Story, sparking Islamophobic accusations. While the song refers to loving without religion's hold, some parts were misinterpreted by some.

When the criticism got worse, RM took to social media and addressed the situation, stating he had no intention of insulting a religion. The leader also affirmed that no apology from him was necessary since he preferred to always express and be honest about his true feelings.

4.    Kim Daeyoung (SM Trainee)

On August 18, SM trainee and "NCT Universe: LASTART" contestant Kim Daeyoung immediately received backlash from netizens who claimed that he was a former bully during his high school days.

The post's author also stated the trainee was known to be a known figure in school, who allegedly harassed first year students and made fuss everywhere.
