BLACKPINK's 'Discography' is 'Scam' All Along— Here's Why Knetz Think So

BLACKPINK's discography is now under intense scrutiny, with many fans and netizens dubbing it a "scam."

Here’s what netizens are buzzing about.

Knetz Expose BLACKPINK's Discography as a Massive ‘Scam’

The controversy comes at a tumultuous time for the group, as reports circulate that Jisoo, Jennie, and Lisa are set to part ways with YG Entertainment.

As fans grapple with this major shake-up, they are also revisiting the band's seven-year music journey and questioning the fairness of their treatment when it comes to musical releases.

This isn't a new topic of discussion by any means. YG Entertainment has faced mounting criticism for providing BLACKPINK with a surprisingly limited number of songs, despite their monumental success and unwavering popularity.

A closer examination of the group's discography reveals a stark reality of just how little music BLACKPINK has been able to deliver to their loyal fans.

On a popular K-pop forum, an inventory of ten "albums" was compiled within BLACKPINK's discography. However, upon closer inspection, it becomes evident that most of these "albums" are, in fact, single albums or digital singles.

Even their extended plays (EPs) and full albums contained a notably small number of tracks compared to other artists in the industry.

Why Are Knetz Calling BLACKPINK's Discography a 'Scam'?

The journey began with "Square One," the group's first album, released on August 8, 2016. Despite its album categorization, it was merely a single album containing only two tracks: "BOOMBAYAH" and "Whistle."

Later that year, on November 1, 2016, BLACKPINK followed up with "Square Two," another single album featuring the double title tracks "Playing With Fire" and "Stay," alongside an acoustic version of "Whistle."

The release of "As If It's Your Last" on June 22, 2017, marked the group's first foray into the digital single realm.

June 15, 2018, brought the arrival of their first mini-album, "Square Up," which, disappointingly, comprised just four songs (five if you consider the physical edition's hidden track "As If It's Your Last"). The title track was "DDU-DU DDU-DU."

Approximately a year later, on April 5, 2019, they unveiled their second mini-album, "Kill This Love," boasting a relatively generous five songs in total, although one was a remix of their earlier hit "DDU-DU DDU-DU."

In 2020, "How You Like That" and their collaboration with Selena Gomez, "Ice Cream," were released as digital pre-release singles on June 26 and August 29, respectively.

The much-anticipated "full" album, "The Album," finally arrived on October 20, 2020. However, fans were left disheartened as it contained only eight tracks, two of which had been released earlier that year.

A nearly two-year hiatus followed the release of "The Album," with the pre-release single "Pink Venom" seeing the light of day on August 19, 2022.

On September 16, 2022, BLACKPINK released their second "full" album, "BORN PINK."

Yet again, the album contained only eight songs, including "Pink Venom" and the track "Ready To Love," which had already been released as a promotional single in collaboration with PUBG Mobile.

When considering acoustic versions and remixes, the total tally of songs released by BLACKPINK over seven years barely exceeds 30. This meager output pales in comparison to other artists of similar age and stature in the industry.

Netizens have been quick to voice their concerns and frustrations over BLACKPINK's controversial discography.

Many feel that the group has been shortchanged in terms of musical content despite their immense global popularity.
