Big Hit Goes All-In to Protect BTS Members— What Happened?

In a resolute move to protect the rights and well-being of global sensation BTS, Big Hit Music has embarked on a vigorous legal crusade against those perpetrating malicious acts aimed at the group.

The entertainment agency, known for managing one of the most influential K-pop acts worldwide, made the announcement via a notice on BTS's official fan community platform, Weverse, on September 27th.

Big Hit Music Takes Legal Action to Safeguard BTS Members' Rights

BTS' agency has taken legal action for various offenses, including defamation, personal attacks, sexual harassment, spreading baseless information, and harmful criticism against the group.

In their official statement, Big Hit Music declared:

"We filed multiple criminal complaints with law enforcement agencies based on evidence related to acts infringing on the rights of the artists, including defamation, submitted by our fans as well as collected through our own monitoring."

One of the most alarming aspects of this legal undertaking involves the agency's response to individuals who resorted to sending mail and packages to the artists' residences, causing distress to the members and their families.

In such cases, Big Hit Music has taken swift action, filing criminal complaints against these individuals under charges related to stalking crimes, as stipulated by the Act on Punishment of Crime of Stalking.

These actions have led to the issuance of interim restraining orders by the court, with ongoing investigations being conducted by the prosecution.

Big Hit Music's dedication to protecting BTS' reputation and mental well-being has been clear since February, when the investigation into certain suspects was abruptly halted, and charges were not pursued by the prosecution.

In response, Big Hit Music filed an objection against this decision, urging a re-investigation into the matter.

Ultimately, these efforts have borne fruit, as suspects who had previously escaped legal consequences were recently found guilty of insults and defamation against the artists, receiving due legal punishment.

Among the individuals facing legal action in this latest round, Big Hit Music singled out one individual who had consistently posted violent and offensive comments on news sections of portal sites.

The agency noted:

"This individual regularly engaged in dozens of cases of high-intensity malicious commenting across various articles. We have compiled all verified comments and filed criminal complaints against the individual."

In conclusion, Big Hit Music reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to collecting evidence, reporting transgressions, and pursuing legal measures against malicious postings concerning BTS.

They emphasized their resolute stance, stating, "We will continue to adhere to strict measures and our policy of no settlement and no leniency to hold suspects accountable."

This resounding message underscores the agency's determination to protect BTS and their fans from unwarranted harm, setting a strong precedent in the entertainment industry for safeguarding the rights and dignity of artists.
