THIS K-Pop Idol Reveals She Was Expelled from Group for Refusing Drastic Diet— 'Appearance Over Talent'

In the glittering world of K-Pop, where visuals play an undeniable role in the industry, the relentless scrutiny of an artist's physique often takes a heavy toll.

As the pressure to maintain an "ideal" weight intensifies, it is not only the aspiring trainees who suffer but also established idols who find themselves caught in a relentless battle with the scale.

Yura's Struggle

Recently, Girl's Day's Yura shed light on a dark aspect of the K-Pop industry when she revealed that she was expelled from her group for failing to shed pounds as instructed by her CEO.

During her guest appearance on the popular South Korean variety show, "Knowing Bros," Yura, a member of the beloved girl group Girl's Day, recounted her past struggles with body image and the harsh demands placed on her weight.

Standing at 170 cm tall and weighing 53 kg (117 lbs) at the beginning of her career, Yura appeared to be in good shape. However, her CEO had a different perspective.

In a shocking revelation, Yura disclosed that her CEO had monitored her weight closely and instructed her to reduce it by nearly five pounds.

Yura recalled during her appearance on the show, highlighting the unrealistic demands placed on K-Pop idols regarding their body weight.

Recognizing the significant weight loss required, Yura attempted to negotiate with her CEO, suggesting a less drastic target of 52 kg. Regrettably, her efforts did not yield a favorable response. Instead, she was met with anger and an abrupt expulsion from the group.

Faced with this sudden expulsion, Yura was sent back to her hometown in Ulsan, away from the group and her cherished idol dream. What's truly astonishing is that Yura was kicked out during Girl's Day's "Twinkle Twinkle" era, a time when she had already debuted and achieved recognition as an idol.

Despite the severity of the situation and the evident hardships Yura faced, there was a silver lining. Her mother offered unwavering support, encouraging her to gain weight whenever she needed to return home and see her family.
