Original Lyrics of aespa's 'Drama' About 'Planting Trees' Draw Attention — Is Revised Version Better?

aespa 'Drama' Lyrics Supposed to Be About Planting Trees

On November 10, aespa released their fourth mini-album, "Drama," along with a title song of the same name.

As confirmed by the members, it was reported that the song was supposed to be released at the same time as their third mini-album, "My World," was dropped. In fact, it almost became the title track, but it was canceled due to its lyrics.

In particular, before former SM's producer Lee Soo Man left the company, he insisted that the song should be released with lyrics about "planting trees."

At the time, aespa was about to make a comeback in February, but SM's CEO Lee Sung Soo explained that it was delayed because of the "tree planting" related keywords inside the song, which made even the aespa members upset upon seeing it.

Take a look at "Drama's" original lyrics below (as obtained by The Fact):

Chorus:

'What U wanna do what U gonna do is all gone
I'm gonna start again to be or not to be Gotta get some new gotta get some new start a paradigm
All Sustainability
Wind Sunlight Water Wind Sunlight Water We're gonna add what we already have and plant a tree
Win-win's words are high and don't forget this is the last call so what about"

Overall, the lyrics were said to come out of nowhere while the narrative generally centered on the theme of challenges and confidence in overcoming adversity.

This is the point where listeners can feel former general manager Lee Soo Man's will to plant trees.

aespa Releases 'Drama' Revised Version — Is It Better?

When Lee Soo Man was then kicked out of SM, the song and its lyrics were reimagined under "SM 3.0," the new system of the company.

An official from the music industry told the media:

"I understand that the atmosphere has completely changed from the original version because the melody has changed, the arrangement has been newly arranged, and especially the lyrics have been re-written."

Contrary to Lee Soo Man's traditional system, the song was transformed into a hip-hop track and erased the traces of "tree planting."

Rather than nature, sustainability and planting trees, the song became about having a confident attitude that all stories start with "me."

'Yeah I'm coming I bring I bring all the Drama-ma-ma-maI bring Drama-ma-ma-ma / With my girls in the back Girls in the back Drama / Trauma-ma-ma-ma I break Trauma-ma-ma-ma / With MY WORLD in the back 나로 시작되는 Drama (All that) Drama-ma-ma-ma (Bring it that)'(현재 'Drama' 버전 후렴구 가사)
