HEIZE Raises Brows for Discrediting THIS Top 2nd-Gen Boy Group in 'New' Song — What Happened?

Singer-songwriter HEIZE faced the frustration of THIS boy group's fandom for allegedly not giving them credits for a "new" song she is set to release.

HEIZE to Unveil 8th Mini Album 'Last Winter'

As Christmas is fast approaching, solo singer HEIZE is set to commemorate the cold season with a new release.

After about six months since she dropped her single "VingleVingle" in April, the singer heralds her 8th mini-album, "Last Winter."

Ahead of its official release on December 7, HEIZE unveiled the album's track list on Nov. 28. The EP will be comprised of eight songs, including the title track, "Stranger" (feat. 10CM)," and b-side tracks including the song titled, "Midnight."

HEIZE personally introduced the tracklist to her Instagram, writing:

"It's finally complete. Thank you, I love you. Last Winter."

Upon its release, her fans showed high anticipation just by just seeing the star-studded featuring artists in the album, such as 10CM, BIG Naughty, and Chan.

In addition to this, HEIZE also gave credit to big names, such as Yong Junhyung, CLOUD, Shinsadong Tiger, DAVII, and vibin for the production, raising more interest.

HEIZE Receives Backlash for Not Giving HIGHLIGHT Credits to 'Midnight'

While her supporters rejoiced and showed their high anticipation for the album, LIGHT, the fandom of HIGHLIGHT (formerly B2ST), expressed their dissatisfaction after noticing that "Midnight" on the track list is actually the boy group's song, but there is no indication stating that it's a remake.

If non-K-pop fans see the track list poster, they will think that "Midnight" is HEIZE's new song, but looking at the credits of the song which include Shinsadong Tiger, Choi, Kyu Sung, and Yong Junhyung, it became obvious that it was the same song released by HIGHLIGHT in 2012.

The singer wrote her own name in the arrangement credit of the song, but there is no mark that it's originally B2ST's song.

This is not the first time that HEIZE, made a new arrangement of a HIGHLIGHT song, as she initially released her 2021 version of "On Rainy Days," a song unveiled by the group in 2011.

Undoubtedly, LIGHTs are extremely grateful since HIGHLIGHT's song is given the spotlight that it deserved. Despite this, all of their efforts will be in vain if the group will not be credited for it.

Here are some of the comments from fans:

  • "HEIZE has remade Beast's 'On Rainy Days' before, but I don't think she's doing a remake of the same singer's song for the second time."
  • "Is it too much not to mark the song as a remake?"
  • "There is no remake notation and there is no credit on the original singer's name. Do the fans look stupid?"
  • "You're so rude."
  • "She made a track list like it is her own song."
  • "I know there's no problem if you make a remake, but I'm honestly upset from the perspective of the original artist's fan."

In response, internet users defended HEIZE by saying:

  • "Originally, remake songs are not marked."
  • "If you look at the lyrics and composition, you know exactly that it is a remake song, so why indicate it."
  • "Why is it only about HEIZE when other singers also don't mark it?"

Meanwhile, as a response, the official press articles released amid the criticism all wrote Beast (hereinafter HIGHLIGHT) as the original singer of the song, "Midnight."
