In 2016, NingNing, who was only 13 years old joined SM Entertainment's pre-debut team, SMROOKIES. At the time, she was lauded for her cute appearance and eventually rose as one of the most popular trainees due to her majestic vocals despite her young age.

She particularly gained recognition for her appearance in "Mickey Mouse Club" a show where they flaunt their talents, play games and share informative segments.

Back then, NingNing used to showcase her innocent and pure visuals especially her chubby cheeks and blonde hair with bangs.

In 2020 then, the idol aspirant finally graduated as a trainee and was introduced as the third member of the quartet, aespa.
