SM Entertainment Relays NCT Haechan's Apologies for Smoking Indoors

SM Entertainment has issued an official statement of apology after NCT member Haechan was seen smoking an e-cigarette indoors.

On January 11, 2024, a representative from the agency confirmed that Haechan was seen smoking an e-cigarette indoors. After the video started circulating, they received a notice of penalty for violating smoking laws from the health center. The company intends to pay the fine.

The agency then apologized, causing people concern due to Haechan's careless actions. They promise that they will take precautions to make sure the same mistake does not repeat again.

Following the apology, many took to social media to share their sentiments. Many were impressed by how fast SM Entertainment released an apology, while others urged him to smoke outdoors instead.

NCT Haechan Draws Flak After Being Spotted Smoking Vape Indoors

On January 10, NCT 127's official YouTube account uploaded behind-the-scenes footage of their dance practice for "Be There For Me," a song they released in late December.

During a part of the video, Haechan is seen walking the back as other members dance. He is seen holding something up to his mouth and inhaling. Though no smoke comes out of his mouth, many believed the item was a vape and that he chose to "swallow" the smoke so as not to disturb others.

His actions garnered immense backlash, as South Korea has multiple regulations about smoking indoors. In 2023, EXO member D.O. was fined after a video clip of him vaping indoors spread online.

Many did not have a problem with Haechan being a smoker, as previously, other NCT members were caught with vapes in photographs.

Currently, Haechan is on a temporary hiatus from promotions. The idol was diagnosed with tonsillitis.
