K-pop Artists Dominate List of Best-Selling CDs in 2023: TWICE, SEVENTEEN, NewJeans, More Mentioned in Rankings

On January 11, Luminate (previously known as MRC Data) officially announced its year-end list of the best-selling CDs of 2023, which comprised of numerous artists around the world.

Luminate is a data tracking organization, which provides data for the charts in Billboard. The list began its tracking period on December 30, 2022, and concluded on December 28, 2023.

The Top 10 was mostly comprised of K-pop artists, who took seven spots from the list. TWICE, SEVENTEEN, NewJeans, BTS Jungkook, and TXT were the six K-pop artists included. Moreover, the remaining three spots, including No. 1, were claimed by none other than pop sensation Taylor Swift.

On the list, Stray Kids claimed No. 2 with their third studio album "★★★★★ (5-STAR)," which sold 520,000 CDs. This achievement also led Stray Kids to become the top male artist of 2023 to have the best-selling CD album.

Not only did Stray Kids claim second place, but they also secured No. 4 with their eighth mini album "ROCK-STAR." Luminate shared that the album sold 381,000 copies, earning its place on the list, and leading Stray Kids to become the only artist to secure two spots.

The list was continued by fourth-gen representative TXT, who secured No. 3 with their fifth mini album "The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION." The album sold over 442,000 copies across the U.S.

NewJeans rounded the top five with their second mini album "Get Up" and a record of 332,000 sold-out copies. TWICE followed closely with "READY TO BE" by having sold a total of 303,000 copies, earning the sixth place.

SEVENTEEN placed on No. 7, where they reigned with their tenth mini album "FML," which sold 288,000 album copies.

Lastly, the Top 10 was concluded by Jungkook of BTS, who managed to sell over 244,000 CDs of his debut studio album "GOLDEN." This inclusion also meant that Jungkook had become the only male solo artist to be included on the list.

8.    "Midnights" by Taylor Swift - 276,000 copies

9.    "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" by Taylor Swift - 267,000 copies

10.  "GOLDEN" by BTS Jungkook - 244,000 copies
