5 K-pop Idols Who Faked Their Age Before Debut: Lee Gai, K-Soul, More!

These days, K-pop fans' concern about idols debuting at a really young age is growing, sparking discussions on social media and online forums left and right. With this, some fans brought up the K-pop stars who lied about their age prior to their official debut.

1. Baby V.O.X - Lee Gai

In 1998, Le Gai debuted as a first-gen K-pop idol under the girl group BABY V.O.X, initially introduced in 1997. As soon as they were re-launched, the team rose to popularity until in 1999, speculations that she lied about her real age surfaced.

Upon digging into her background, Lee Gai was revealed to have actually been born in 1968, but they purposely made her a 78-liner to start anew.

From 30 years old, she debuted with her fake 20-year-old age!

Unfortunately, this caused huge damage to the team at the time, causing Lee Gai's withdrawal and retirement from the music scene.

2. Brown Eyed Girls - Narsha

In 2006, Narsha debuted as a member of the second-gen K-pop icon Brown Eyed Girls. At the time, Nega Network introduced her as an 83-liner, making her 23 years old.

However, once they established their popularity, Narsha revealed in a broadcast that she was originally an 81-liner and was actually 2 years older than she is!

In a recent broadcast, Narsha exposed that it was the company's idea to fake her age, which was supposedly the same as her other co-members Jea and Miryo.

However, since 23 is usually the oldest age to debut, they reduced her age to maintain synergy with their youngest member, Gain, who was 19 at the time.

3. Fantasy Boys - K-Soul

Even before his debut in Fantasy Boys, K-Soul was accused of intentionally making his age younger. In his official profile, the male idol was said to be born in 2000.

However, netizens and fans started to doubt him due to inconsistencies in his profiles, back when he was still joining survival shows in China.

According to fans, his past profiles hinted that he was born in 1996 or 1997. In 2020, he introduced himself once again with a different birth year, claiming that he's a 98-liner.

His age remains a mystery to date.

The group GIRL CRUSH debuted in 2019 and is a team being independently promoted by the members. After having multiple lineup changes, Hayun who claimed to be a 2001-born joined them in 2022.

Prior to that, she was a former BaBa member and Hayun was caught lying about her age when she admitted first that she was actually born in 2005.

She already turned 18 years old, but the group is facing the background for making her perform 18+ choreographies, starting when she was a minor.

5. LOONA ViVi

Officially introduced as a 96-liner, there was once a time when ViVi was accused of lying about her age, claiming that she was really 93'er.

This was based on her modeling profile which said that she was born in 1993.

Nothing has been confirmed nor denied, but at the time, fans speculated that she purposely faked her age to get more modeling gigs, or Blockberry Creative made her younger when she debuted in LOONA.
