A legendary K-pop icon has opened up about her lack of interest in marriage.

Uhm Jung Hwa Reveals Disinterest in Marriage on 'Supermarket Sora'

On February 14, 2024, "Supermarket Sora" released the first half of its ninth episode, which featured iconic soloist and actress Uhm Jung Hwa.

In the episode, the megastar encountered a tearful reunion with the show's host and her longtime friend Lee So Ra.

The episode comprised of the two celebrities having heartwarming exchanges, which discussed and reflected Uhm Jung Hwa's experiences in the music industry.

However, at the 22:41 mark, the two talked about Uhm Jung Hwa's role in the film "Marriage is a Crazy Thing," which premiered in 2002. The conversation led to Lee So Ra asking why Uhm Jung Hwa wasn't considering getting married.

Lee So Ra: "I loved your acting with Kam Woosung."

Uhm Jung Hwa: "Marriage is a Crazy Thing?"

Lee So Ra: "When I watched that, you made my heart beat again. It was a sensational movie."

Uhm Jung Hwa: "It's a very honest movie. You know what you have to do in that age. Then you had to be married when you're thirty and everything. Adults say, 'Love grows cold easily, money is the best!'"

Lee So Ra: "(Laughing) Or something like, 'The outside doesn't matter, they're all the same when you get old'"

Uhm Jung Hwa: "Right they don't care about looks. I don't think they're all the same. They're different. People are, right?"

Lee So Ra: "Marriage. Why aren't you doing it? You don't want to do it at all?"

Upon hearing the queries, Uhm Jung Hwa playfully clapped back, causing a hilarious banter in the room. The singer then mentioned that the topic of marriage never crossed her mind, and shared how much she loves her work. Read their conversation below:

Lee So Ra: "I'm curious. You could've done it."

Uhm Jung Hwa: "I never thought that I should get married."

Lee So Ra: "Would you be surprised if I said I'm getting married?"

Uhm Jung Hwa: "Yes. I still would been happy for you. But I liked that you didn't marry like me (Laughing)."

Uhm Jung Hwa: "You know sometimes, when we were about 38, 39? I felt bad about my age. I wanted to work more, and I could. But it felt like 39 and 40 were rivers you can't cross."

Lee So Ra: "So then, did you think that you should get married?"

Uhm Jung Hwa: "There was someone I met because I thought, 'Should I get married?' But even then, I still didn't want to get married. I don't think marriage is for me. I wanted to work more."

Uhm Jung Hwa: "The reason why I'm living is not for marriage. I like working. My work is precious to me, and I like it more. So I never wanted to get married. But now, we can dream of working together while being married."

Uhm Jung Hwa: "It used to interfere with work if I got married back then, back in the days. I like it now."
