H1-KEY Dishes Thoughts On 'H1-KEYNote Project,' Bond With M1-KEYs, Inspiration Behind Their Music, More

As the fourth-gen K-pop makes its rise with a slew of debuts, H1-KEY decided to make their mark when they debuted on January 5, 2022, with single album "Athletic Girl" and its title track of the same name.

During a conversation with KpopStarz, H1-KEY, composed of members Seoi, Riina, Hwiseo, and Yel, talked about their newest release called "H1KEYnote Project." The content, which contains songs "Thinkin' About You" and "Deeper," was discussed by the members.

The musicality, according to member Seoi, is considered special if fans focus on the vocals filled with sincerity and emotions.

"Since we started a new project, I want to let you hear the diverse voices of H1-KEY," Seoi shared. "As this project focused on the musicality of H1-KEY, it would be nice if you could focus on the emotional vocals."

Riina then elaborated on the meanings of the two songs, "Thinkin' About You" is about missing your ex-lover, and "Deeper" is about enduring pain and sadness and moving forward, leaving them in the past."

Hwiseo shared which of the two songs she relates to the most, "Personally, I relate more to 'Deeper.' As it conveys a message of being determined and positive even in a difficult situation, I felt like I was comforted myself, too."

Afterwards, the group was asked if they wanted to try other music styles and concepts.

"I want to perform with a hip girl crush concept." Yel replied with enthusiasm. "I want to change our music and styling accordingly to match the concept and show that H1-KEY is a group that can pull off these concepts, too!"

1.    Do you have any other favorite songs from your discography? Which songs would you like to recommend to M1-KEYs?

Seoi: "There's a song for M1-KEY! It's called "You Are My Key (for M1-KEY)" and all of our members worked on the lyrics. You could say it's a song that contains our sincere hearts. If you're curious about H1-KEY's feelings for M1-KEY, make sure to listen to it!"

2.    It must've been really enjoyable producing the "H1-KEYnote Project." Can you share any memorable or fun experiences while making the songs?

Riina: "While filming the live clip, it was professional yet cute to see the members following the emotions and expressing them. Actually, it was awkward for us to watch each other being serious, so we had a hard time holding back our laughter!"

3.    Are there any musicians who inspired you to become singers or influenced your music taste? Do you have anyone in mind whom you would like to collaborate with?

Hwiseo: "I was inspired a lot by BLACKPINK's performance. It would be great if we have a chance to collaborate!"

4.    You guys are always full of energy when performing for M1-KEYs. Do you have any routines that can help you get into the right mindset before going on stage?

Yel: "We always shout our team cheer before going on stage. That way, we can gain more energy for each performance."

5.    H1-KEY has also been busy with schedules. What do you guys usually do in your time-off to relax?

Seoi: "We have homebodies and people who like to go outside in our group. HWISEO and YEL are the former while RIINA and I are the latter. I usually prefer to relax at home, but I also like to take a walk while listening to music. I tend to go out to eat delicious food or go shopping alone."

6.    Who's the funniest one in the group who can boost the members' moods?

Riina: "Yel! She's a member who definitely plays the role of the youngest. She always smiles and her smile also makes people around her happy."

7.    How important is teamwork for H1-KEY?

Hwiseo: "Since we have to do a lot of things together and create a performance together, if there is no teamwork, the stage quality is likely to be disrupted, so I think it is more important than anything else."

8.    Do you have any messages for your loving M1-KEYs who are looking forward to more of your activities and music?

Seoi: "M1-KEY! Thank you so much for always being with us and generously giving us love! Let's be together for a long time."

Riina: "We'll prepare a lot to show you various and great performances as H1-KEY, so please look forward to them and continue to watch us! Thank you always M1-KEY!"

Hwiseo: "We will continue to challenge many fields and accomplish them, so please join us! I love you!"

Yel: "M1-KEY! We'll show you more diverse and mature sides of us than now, so please look forward to it! And thank you for always supporting us. I love you."
