After releasing a sketch and description of the suspect, netizens began to speculate that the man in question was Zico due to the culprit's build, and features.
Moreover, netters began to recall Zico's 2016 interview during the Burning Sun investigation, when he shared that Jung Joon Young had a "golden phone" for sharing "molkas" or private videos of victims.
On June 24, KOZ Entertainment released an official statement announcing legal action against malicious posts and rumors targeting Zico.

We have confirmed that malicious posts and comments such as defamation, insults, and dissemination of false information have been indiscriminately made on various online communities and social media sites regarding our artist Zico.
Particularly, we believe that the spread of malicious rumors and falsehoods that clearly have nothing to do with the artists is becoming more serious and that strong legal action against them is urgently needed.
Accordingly, we have filed a complaint with the investigative agency by collecting posts and comments on various online communities, and SNS, and we will continue to collect malicious posts and file complaints on a regular basis.
In addition, we would like to clarify that the ongoing rumors about the artist are not true, and we will respond strongly to them.
In order to protect the rights and interests of artists, we will continue to take strict action against the perpetrators of malicious posts based on fans' reports and evidence collected through our self-monitoring."
