Lisa, a member of the globally renowned K-pop group BLACKPINK, has officially declined an invitation to perform at the Miss Universe 2025 grand finale.
The announcement was made by Nawat Itsaragrisil, the newly appointed CEO of the Miss Universe Organization, during a recent TikTok livestream. Nawat explained that Lisa was invited to headline the highly anticipated event, which will take place at IMPACT Arena Muang Thong Thani in Thailand.
Organizers were eager to secure her appearance, but discussions with Lisa's management proved challenging. Ultimately, her team cited scheduling conflicts as the primary reason for turning down the offer, noting that Lisa's calendar for the year is already packed with various projects and commitments.
The singer's schedule is fully booked due to multiple upcoming endeavors, both as a solo artist and as part of BLACKPINK. The singer recently delivered standout solo performances at Coachella 2025. Additionally, Lisa is preparing for a new music release, including a collaboration single with Maroon 5 titled "Priceless," and is expected to participate in BLACKPINK's upcoming world tour, which will include stops in South Korea, the United States, Canada, Spain, England, Japan, and Italy.
Some fans expressed support and understanding of the news of Lisa's decision. Others also referenced the Miss Universe Organization's recent controversies and changes in leadership, suggesting that Lisa's choice to focus on her music career was a wise decision. Nawat Itsaragrisil, who took over as CEO on April 23, 2025, has been a prominent figure in the pageant industry but has faced criticism in the past for his management style and public statements.
In 2016, he was accused by Miss Iceland 2015, Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir, of telling her to lose weight before the Miss Grand International finals, prompting her withdrawal from the competition. In 2022, Nawat sparked outrage among Vietnamese fans when he publicly stated that Miss Vietnam failed to make the Top 10 because her "torso was too long and her legs were too short," a comment widely criticized as body-shaming.
