SEOUL, South Korea — Nah Sang-hyun, lead vocalist of the indie rock group Mr. Nah Band, issued a public apology Friday after allegations surfaced that he sexually harassed a woman at a drinking gathering several years ago. The apology, posted on the social media platform X, follows an anonymous post accusing Nah of inappropriate behavior.
"I sincerely apologize to anyone who may have felt uncomfortable or distressed because of my past behavior," Nah wrote on X.
The anonymous post claimed Nah touched a woman's thigh while pretending to be drunk at social gatherings. The poster stated, "I'm writing vaguely to avoid identification. Since it happened in a private setting, there's no evidence."
Nah acknowledged the accusation, admitting he could not recall specifics due to intoxication but took responsibility for his actions. "I am deeply sorry that I caused harm and did not apologize at the time. I now express my regret, even if belatedly," he said.
The singer noted he was confronted about his behavior three to four years ago and has since worked to address it. "After being called out for my words and actions while drinking, I took time to reflect and sought help from those around me," he wrote. "I will continue to work on myself and ensure that something like this never happens again. I again apologize to the person affected."
Nah, a Seoul National University graduate, formed Mr. Nah Band in 2014 with drummer Kang Hyun-woong after meeting in a campus songwriting club. The band, now a trio, has built a following in South Korea's indie music scene.
The allegations come amid heightened scrutiny of harassment in the entertainment industry, with recent cases involving a former Omega X label executive and reports of misconduct at a university retreat. Nah's apology has sparked discussions online, with fans and critics weighing in on accountability and personal growth.
Neither Nah nor Mr. Nah Band has announced changes to their performance schedule. The band's management has not issued a statement regarding the allegations.
