TXT members Soobin and Taehyun have revealed for the first time that they were physically abused during their trainee days, describing how they were "beaten up" by choreographers while learning difficult routines.

The revelation came during a recently held Weverse livestream, where Soobin, the group's leader, and Taehyun recounted the harsh treatment they endured before their debut.

Soobin, 24, explained that as middle school-aged trainees, he and Taehyun were suddenly tasked with mastering a complex Seventeen dance routine after barely a week or two of formal training. "They told us to learn it ourselves by watching the video," Soobin said, adding that they slowed the footage to half speed in hopes of picking up the steps.

"It seemed really tough, so it was a given that we wouldn't dance it well." When their performance fell short, choreographers resorted to physical punishment rather than instruction, Soobin admitted, noting that they faced "repeated beatings" during practice sessions. Taehyun confirmed Soobin's account, posting in the livestream comment section that both of them had been struck during their early dance lessons.

Despite the severity of their experiences, Soobin made clear that such corporal punishment has since been discarded by the industry. "They had physical punishments back then, but if they physically punish someone now, they'd get in huge trouble," he said, emphasizing that trainee welfare standards have improved.

News of their confessions quickly sparked widespread debate online, as fans expressed outrage at the idea of children being subjected to violence in pursuit of entertainment careers. Many users praised Soobin's courage for speaking out while still under contract with BigHit Music.

Industry observers note that strict trainee regimens are common in K-pop, where aspiring idols often spend years perfecting their craft under intense schedules and rigorous feedback. However, the revelations from TXT contrast with the polished image of trainee support systems that agencies publicly promote. BigHit Music, TXT's agency, has not issued an official statement responding to the allegations.

As conversations about idol welfare continue, Soobin and Taehyun's testimony adds to a growing chorus of voices calling for transparent training practices and stronger protections for young performers. By sharing their own stories, the two TXT members have highlighted the importance of safeguarding trainee rights as K-pop maintains its global expansion.
