Multiple K-pop entertainment companies and artists have pledged substantial donations to aid victims of a devastating apartment fire in Hong Kong that occurred on Wednesday.
The contributions represent a unified response from South Korea's music industry to support rescue operations and relief efforts following the tragedy.
SM Entertainment announced a donation of 1 million Hong Kong dollars (approximately $128,000) directed to the Hong Kong Red Cross Society to support firefighting operations, rescue efforts, and the provision of daily necessities. The company's affiliated groups also responded individually.
Girl group aespa pledged 500,000 Hong Kong dollars (roughly $65,000), while their statement emphasized the gravity of the situation by expressing deep condolences for the heartbreaking incident, according to allkpop. Boy band Riize committed 250,000 Hong Kong dollars (approximately $32,500) to the relief efforts in the name of the group and their fanbase.
HYBE Music Group APAC, which manages multiple K-pop labels including Big Hit Music and Source Music, announced a collective donation of 500 million won (approximately $336,000) to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association. The funds will support families of fire victims through cooperation with local non-profit organizations in Hong Kong.
Girl group (G)I-DLE contributed 1 million yuan (approximately $136,000) through the Fosun Foundation, a Shanghai-based nonprofit organization. Member Yuqi shared a message on social media wishing for everyone's safety and well-being, Nate News reported.
YG Entertainment also stepped forward with a donation of 1 million Hong Kong dollars (roughly $128,000) through their official Weibo account, expressing their deepest condolences to the victims.
Jackson Wang from GOT7, a native of Hong Kong, took a different approach by sharing information about local emergency shelters on his social media platform and urging followers to help those in need. Additionally, Wang announced a personal donation of 1 million Hong Kong dollars (approximately $128,000) through his own clothing brand.
The fire at Wang Fuk Court in Hong Kong's Tai Po district has resulted in at least 83 confirmed deaths and 76 injuries, with hundreds of additional people still reported missing. The blaze, which erupted in an eight-building residential complex housing approximately 2,000 households, represents Hong Kong's deadliest fire in recent history. Officials attribute the rapid spread of the flames to flammable materials used during ongoing renovation work at the complex, as per Korea JongAng Daily.
The 2025 MAMA Awards, a major K-pop awards ceremony scheduled to take place in Hong Kong, modified its planned events in response to the tragedy. Organizers decided to cancel the red carpet event and adapt stage productions out of respect for the mourning atmosphere surrounding the disaster.
