Ratings Results For 'WIN: Who Is Next?' Surprise YG Execs: TV Show More Popular With 40-Something Women Than Teens

When YG Entertainment founder and CEO Yang Hyun Suk created the television singing competition "WIN: Who Is Next?" his stated goal was to allowing the fans to choose their next teen idol group.

What he and the rest of the YG executives didn't expect was the huge popularity the show would achieve among women between the ages of 40 and 49.

"The analysis of the viewers by Nielson Korea showed that the majority of the viewers were made up of women in their 20s, followed by men in their 20s and then women in their 40s," read a statement released Monday by the record label.

According to the YG Entertainment statement, the fact that the audience of "WIN: Who Is Next?" is older than expected having a direct effect on the show's outcome.

"[Because the viewership is older] Team A benefited from having two members who are already well known to the public--Kang Seung Yoon and Lee Seung Hoon," the statement read.

Yet the record label expressed optimism that more teens would begin watching the show as the season progresses.

"More and more teenagers are utilizing replay services and also starting to participate in the voting, which indicates that many more will be paying a close attention to the second battle," read another YG press release from Monday.

The record label's statements come on the heels of a surprising development on Friday's episode of "WIN: Who Is Next?"

Despite a clear majority of the show's celebrity panel of judges, including Big Bang members T.O.P., Daesung, Seungri and all four members of 2NE1 members, calling Team B the winner of the first challenge on the reality show, the viewing audience chose Team A

The margin of victory was a slim one.

Team A, which consists of members Song Min Ho, Kim Jin Woo, Lee Seung Hoon, Nam Tae Hyun and Kang Seung Yoon, earned 51.3 percent of the vote.

Team B, which includes B.I., Kim Jin Hwan, Bobby, Song Yoon Hyung, Koo Jun Hoe, and Kim Dong Hyuk, received 48.6 percent.

The show, which has reportedly been surpassing a million viewers per episode, is now reportedly being seen in over 190 countries.
