Fans Of Lee Min Ho Donate 12 Tons Of Rice Ahead Of 'The Heirs' Premiere: Donations Could Feed 100,000 People

Former "Boys Over Flowers" star Lee Min Ho sure knows how to bring out the best in people.

Fans of the actor left 12 tons of rice, along with wreathes and posters, in the lobby of Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) offices on Monday, to celebrate the actor's new series "The Heirs," which premieres on the network on Oct. 9.

The rice donated was enough to feed 100,000 people, according to the publication eNEWS. And in addition to the generosity of South Korean fans the donations also included gifts from Lee Min Ho supporters in Japan, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Turkey, Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Peru.

The donations were done through several different nonprofit organizations, including the Dream For Lee Min Ho Foundation that included ornate wreathes and blown-up photos of the actor with their donations.

Other donated items included coal briquettes and baby formula. These items, along with the rice, will reportedly go to needy families in the region.

Meanwhile on a beach in Malibu, Lee Min Ho was hard at work learning how to surf for an episode of "The Heirs."

The show has been filming in Los Angeles.

"The waves were higher than I thought, so it was harder to go out into the ocean," Lee said.

"But on the flipside, it was a lot of fun, even though it was hard. The staff that jumped into the ocean with me to bring more life to the scene, worked so hard.

The actor admitted that he was surprised by the strength of the California sun.

"Even though I wore a full body suit, the sun was so strong that I got tanned," Lee said. "All the people on our team have dark faces now."

The fact that the actor was cast on "The Heirs" has caused some critics to speculate that the show will be a "Boys Over Flowers" rip off, an accusation writer Kim Eun Sook brushed off a press conference Monday at Patio 9 in Seoul.

"It doesn't make me comfortable when the topic of 'Boys Over Flowers' comes up," Kim said.

"If I was going to write a drama that was going to be called an imitation of 'Boys Over Flowers,' I wouldn't have cast Lee Min Ho. It's because I had confidence that this was going to be a completely different and more entertaining story that I asked Lee Min Ho to become a high school student again. That's why I was able to cast Lee Min Ho."
