Rain Discusses Upcoming Plans At His First Fan Club Meeting Since Being Discharged From The Army

K-pop singer and actor Rain discussed his future plans with several thousand of his biggest fans on Saturday at Seoul's Kyunghee University, in his first fan event since being honorably discharged from the South Korean army back in July, according to the website allkpop.

"I want to do a type of concert where I can interact directly with my fans, beginning with my concert in Japan," Rain said.

The 31-year-old singer, whose real name is Jung Ji Hoon, is kicking off his first post-military tour on Nagoya, Japan on November 14, the French news agency Agence France-Presse reported last week.

While preparing for his fulltime return to the stage, this time around, Rain says he is also taking time to have a life outside of music, such as enjoying film and literature.

"In the midst of my training life, I'm building a lot of good experiences like reading or watching movies," said the singer, before thanking his fans for their enduring support.

"Everything was possible due to my trusting fans who support me in everything. I'm always thankful."

Rain also described his ambitious musical goals for the future.

"I'm planning songs and performances with many strong points," he said.

"I want to show everyone what I'm good at, but I also want to show something new. But I certainly want to [create] something that will have appeal not only in Korea, but throughout the world."

The singer treated his fans to performances of several of his hit songs, including "Rainism," "Fresh Woman" and "Friends.

Rain had originally planned his first official post-army fan performance for the beginning of August, yet he cancelled a few days before the show.

"There are many factors including the lack of preparation that we decided to postpone the meeting," his record label Cube Entertainment explained in an official statement on the singer's online fan page.

Rain was discharged from the army on July 10.

The singer's time in the army was fraught with controversy, including reports he allegedly snuck out during active duty to meet actress Kim Tae Hee and never filled out the proper paperwork to become part of the now-defunct celebrity recruit program.

Although confined to his military base for a week due to the Kim incident, according to the website Drama Fever, Rain completed his military service without any major penalties.

All eligible males between the ages of 18 and 35 must enroll for roughly two years of army service in South Korea. The length of mandatory enrollment changes by several months depending on which branch of the military that they serve in.
